Yes, I have decreed that today shall be hair Saturday and all posts today will concern matters follicular.
We’ll be looking at a hirsute summer essential, and also talking about the fact that hair can suffer from stress. You might not think it – but all will be revealed.
Stay tuned!

Hair can suffer from stress? Well, as Bart Simpson would say: “Duuuuhhh!” ‘Anagen/Telogen effluvium’, ‘Alopecia areata’, you name it, I’ve experienced it at one point or another, as will many women throughout their lifetimes. Not fun, I can tell you from experience!
Oh I love it, has anyone tried the new Redkin UV range I was thinking of buying it for my hols???

Sonia – is your hair in recovery now – what products do you think are best for stressed hair? We’d love to know!

Hi Aphrodite! First off, let me express how happy I am that you are covering hair, just as I have become more interested in the matter (of course, now that it’s stopped falling out, I finally have hair worthy of interest).
For anyone experiencing recurring hair loss induced by stressful episodes, I would suggest:
1) Going to a dermatologist or your GP to see if there isn’t an underlying health problem exacerbating your hair loss (Androgen and Thyroid disorders are likely culprits). Medication isn’t a hair product per say, but if the condition is treatable, it’s best to detect and treat it as soon as possible.
2) Massaging the hair and scalp with avocado, olive or coconut oil to stimulate circulation (all three oils penetrate the hair shaft and improve the hair’s condition). Scalp brushes are great for this purpose.
3) Investing in vitamin/mineral supplements containing biotin, fish-oil and omega 3 fatty acids, specifically designed for hair and nail growth, to speed your (hair’s)recovery.
4) Buying styling products that reduce or eliminate your need to use flat-irons, curling irons and/or blow-dryers. Heat styling tools are not your friends; they are your painful, expensive enemies.
Thanks a million Sonia! Brilliant tips!
