I blogged about the lovely ladies at Renew Aesthetic Clinic recently, and told you about the treatments they offer – everything from glycolic peels to microdermabrasion, colonics, endermologie, fillers as well as medical laser treatments. And because both gals are nurses, you’re always in competent, excellently trained hands.
The medical laser treatment is currently the one I’m the most interested in, and I’ve been in to see Sinead and Jeanette at Renew to talk about getting rid of that yuckky bit of hair on my top lip.
Now, lets not be shy – because we’re Irish, a lot of us have dark hair, me included. And we know what that means – hairy legs and an unfortunate tendency to unwanted hair other places besides. I’ve spent many an hour hidden in the bathroom removing it all too, so I finally decided, to hell with it – lets get it gone once and for all. There’s no need anymore to go down a fiddly route like electrolysis with mediocre results – laser is quick, non invasive and pretty much fuss free. And the best thing about it for me is – once the treatment is complete (6 sessions, 6 weeks apart) I won’t ever have to worry about it again!
I’ve been for a patch test and that went swimmingly – I was warned I might feel a stinging or a sensation of having a mild shock, but nope – nothing. So I’m really confident about how the rest of the treatment will go – I think it’s going to be a cinch!
You’ll be hearing more from me about the joys of laser hair removal as my treatment progresses, but if you’re interested right now, then contact the gals at Renew. Each area you want to have treated costs €80 per session (under arms are more) and you’ll need 6, basically because hair grows at different rates and cycles, and you want to get it all gone. But if you book a course of treatments, you’ll get a 10% discount, which is a great incentive.

I knwo a few people who have tried this out and it hasn’t worked for them- the hair started to grow back as before. Actually one of these people was guaranteed that it would get rid of the hair forever for a once of fee, so she’s holding them to it even now a few years down the road…
It must work for some people though or else they wouldn’t offer it, so good luck!
i’ll be following this one with interest. I’ve heard that even with permanant laser removal you have to get ‘touch ups’ every year or so. But even so, it would still be better than electrolosis, bleaching or waxing which are the non-solutions i’ve tried.
Kirstie, will be dying to know how you get on. Have been toying with this idea for a while as I’m v hairy and hate waiting the last 2-3 weeks before a wax.
Fletch, I too am in that boat. The place I went to neglected to mention that I would need more than 6 treatments until I was on my last one!! Also they said it would be permanent – it sure isnt. I spent a lot of money and so I am very disappointed to say the least. The treated hair was dark, I did not pluck it during sessions and yet it is virtually the same as before.
I wonder if it was the same place? I was treated in a salon in Dublin city center(quite near the Green) This was 2 years ago so I wasn’t sure if I could hold them to it.
I would be very interested to hear how your friend got on when she approached them about it?
Renew have a medical laser machine, because they’re nurses they can have better equipment, so I think it’ll be grand. I know also Jill, who comments on beaut.ie, is having laser at the moment and is thrilled with the results so far.
Andrea, not sure what beauticians/clinic it was but she was basically fighting with them saying that they broke a verbal contract by promising permanent hair removal, and since she paid a lump sum that she’s entitled to treatment until the hair is gone. There was a change of management at the place she was going to, and the new manager was trying to get her to pay for the treatment, despite paying the lump sum, but since she’s a strongwilled lady she’s still getting her treatment at no extra cost (and I think the manager might be a bit battered…). Have a chat with them- if they said permanent, and kept on treating you having seen your hair type then the least they can do is offer you some kind of refund… Or should do anyway!
Hi,
You need to check the name and type of the laser. Some of them don’t penetrate the hair follicle deep enough to kill it permenently, or may not absorb enough melanin (the melanin of the hair absorbs the light, which is why the darker your hair, the greater the success). I used to have a laser hair removal business which is why I know a thing or two on the subject. The best one at the time was the Epilight laser. Four years on, I am still hairless without any re-touches!
I have asked about laser hair removal at a clinic where I’ve been getting laser skin rejuvenation. The person I questioned at the clinic told me it works best on small areas of hair, doesn’t have the same effects on everyone, and you DO need top-ups once a year. She said if I got my legs done, it would slow down growth, and make growth thinner, but I shouldn’t expect hair-free legs for life.
I’d love something which slowed down re-growth, as hair on my legs grows back really fast, but am not too sure about laser being worth all that money. Sounds like it’s good for upper lip, bikini etc. though.
First time on the site and am interested in the feedback about renew. It was recommended to me by a friend who was having laser hair removal (extremely happy with the results). I am almost finished a course of glycolic peels and am thrilled with the results. The girls are professional and spend the time going over the procedure with you before comencing the treatment.
It is such a refreshing change to visit a clinic where staff are welcoming and dedicated to providing a high level of customer service.
