Lets Twist Again: Rimmel 1-2-3 Looks Mascara

Incoming from Rimmel shortly (date is TBC) is 1-2-3 Looks Mascara, €9.91. Like Avon’s dial-up Spectra Lash mascara from last year, this features a twisty mechanism you can open or close to ramp up the effect. The wand itself is a fairly classic-looking on-the-slim-side bog brush-style affair, as opposed to a spiky hedgehog style applicator.

While I haven’t tried this out on my own lovely lashes yet,  I got a bit excited when it arrived and thought you’d all like to see some pix of this new doofer, which makes claims that are all to do with volume.  So, depending on the level you twist from one-to-three, you achieve varying va-va-voom effects.  Level one delivers three times more volume than yer own lashes, level two gives you up to five times more fatness and if you take it up to three, you get ten times the lash-thickenin’.

In case you’re absolutely baffled and bamboozled as to how this all happens, it’s pretty simple: as you turn the dial, the inner tube widens, so more product gets onto the wand. So, it’s mostly a gadget, but if it should turn out to be a good volumising mascara in any case, then there’s an immediate point of benefit with the twistyness, and that’s the whole thing of having to have two products for day and night – this potentially could be dialled to one for day, and up to three for evening.

Would you be interested in giving it a whirl? Naturally, I’ll be trying it out this week and will report back STAT, comrades. A pic of the open product plus wand is after the cut.

Oh I like the sound of this too!

Think I’d prefer to layer up my max factor. Not a fan of things that have a gimmick vibe. Although on the positive side the price ain’t bad!

first impressions from this morning are that it is lovely and volumising, the brush is nice and doesn’t splashback onto lids but could see no discernible difference from dialling 1 to 3 in the amount of product it dispensed. The result was very pleasing though. Full review later this week when I’ve used it a few more times!

Bought another mascara at the weekend and still no joy, crap length and volume and major clumpage (not sure if that is a word, actually I’m pretty sure it’s not but it shall suffice). Think a trip to BT’s is needed to try and end my hunt for the perfect mascara once and for all. Also, still cannot apply false lashes having practised loads the other night and then bought a pack of those lash extension things (little clusters of lashes) thinkinkg they would be easier to position but they kept twisting when I placed them on and ending up side ways and upside down or just in my feckin eye. Am resigning myself to the fact that I will forever have mediocre lashes. Soz for the long post but I have become obsessed with enhancing my lashes lately.

Really want to know what the cool robot thingy is the background is Kirstie??

  • Kirstie says:

    It’s a cool robot thing! I semi-collect tin robots. I LOVE ROBOTS.

  • Emz says:

    WOW – I love it!

  • scarie says:

Can’t see how this would be different to say applying 3 coats! I need to find a HG cheap mascara, Lancome hypnose is my HG mascara but I just can’t afford it at the moment!

  • Kirstie says:

scarie – no different! A quirk to sell, which I don’t mind as long as the gudge inside delivers the goods. so far so good.

  • Pookie says:

I sampled a prototype of this (from an insider) so looking forward to seeing finished product!

  • MiamiMortimer says:

Hmm, wand doesn’t look that great, though. I base all my mascaras on the wands because they control the amount of product dispensed and how it is applied, and this wand looks a lil clumpy….still, I like the colour of the packaging and the size! :)

  • sweetie says:

Emz, was wondering about the robot myself ;)

Scarie, the trick with mascaras is – it’s at least 70% down to the brush, so if you see mascara wands in Boots that looks like Hypnose, try those first. Or even try washing your Hypnose wand and using it with some Rimmel mascara. This one should do the trick because you’ll be able to adjust the opening to fit a wand :)

Daiseeboo, I’m very interested in your search as I’m looking for a really good going out mascara at the moment.
As for falsies, have you tried the Girls Aloud ones? I find them great and I am not good with finicky things but I find them very quicky and easy to apply.

  • Aisling says:

the robot is pretty cool (: i looked at the robot before looking at the mascara!

  • daiseeboo says:

Isabelle – if I find the one I will let you know. Have tried the Girls Aloud Nicola lashes but always end up with a gap between them and my lash line and with one bit that keeps peeling away.

  • Ginger says:

Givenchy – Phenonmen Eyes – best mascara I’ve ever owned.

  • Ginger says:

    & lol @ the name ‘SJP’s Mole’ :)

  • Ciara says:

wand looks crap. but i am a fan of beauty related gadgety things e.g. Neutrogena Wave, L’oreal Roll-on foundation!

  • Lala says:

Hmmmm… not huge a fan of Rimmel mascara thus far. bought some recently and even though it does an average job at volumising/curling it leaves my lashes feeling like sticks!

  • Anso says:

@daiseeboo-Estée Lauder-Lash XL. Best mascara EVER.
I’ve tried so many but always come back to lash XL.
