Justin in hessions drumcondra, have tried a few other stylists there but I would defo use him again. He spent 20 minutes just taking about what a wanted and what he thought would suit my face shape etc before I’d even got it washed! Usually it’s all very rushed so was really impressed then the lady washing my hair wispered to me that he was fantastic and to stick with him. I have short hair which I’m trying to grow for my wedding and justin has put a great shape on it, am goin to try and use hair pieces to do an up do for the big day and unfrotunatly he doesn’t do up dos, not sure why, Paul hession doesn’t either as far as I know, maybe it’s somthing to do with senior stylists has anyone come across this? But for a cut justin ur man and a real cutie!

  • Darcie says:

Does anyone know a cheap hairdresser in cork? All I want is a wash cut and blow dry, Im a student and kinda broke so don’t really want to spend anymore than 25-30 euro! Any suggestions?? I really need to get my hair done asap!

  • dashing says:

  • Dewy says:

Ruth in Blakes, Carlow (upstairs in Fairgreen SC) is brilliant, for anyone who might be near there … never a let down with her cuts

  • teeny says:

can anyone recommend a decent hairdresser in wexford town. I’m fed up with my long wavy hair and need advice & ideas on styles & colours. Hasn’t been cut or coloured for over a year as I just don’t know where to go, so really need help.

  • cooleo says:

Prema in Cavan is the best hairdressers I’ve ever been to. Karl is the guy who owns it (use to work in Dub- Toni and Guy i think). Brilliant with colour and cutting and styling (never had it upstyled there so not sure bout that). Been to loads from local to David Marshall and he’s def the best. Have to book about 2 months in advance though.

  • smileyface says:

coolio I’m originally from Cavan and have heard a few bad reports about the place. One was from someone who had a bad blow dry there. It was not with karl, it was another woman who was very rude to her- left her waiting, kept leaving her to deal with other people etc to the extent that the person i know did not tip her at the end of the blow dry, and she always tips. She swore she would never go back.. Such as shame as there is no where else decent in Cavan for blow dries etc

  • Jillian says:

    Hi,
I just want to slate Zeba salon in Dublin 2, had a really bad experience there and will never go back again

  • Aoife says:

Hi, does anyone know where I can get a good haircut and tint done in Blackrock / Stillorgan? I had a colour done in Joseph Kramer and it was good, but they charged me extra to get a blow dry, and extra again because they said I needed a semi as the ends were faded. The semi washed out after a week! Felt ripped off. Tried Freespirit in Sandyford and they had good stylists for a while, but they all left and my last haircut there was a disaster.

  • Ann Byrne says:

Went to Brown Sugar but it is a lot of money for Cut Colour and extra for Blow Dry. Where can you get a good Hair Saloon in Dublin without having to take out a loan.
    Never Happy

  • ciara says:

    Hi
Went to Kalla Hair & Beauty in Inchicore for colour and cut, charged 80.00 euro with stylist Janice, delighted with the finished job. Janice spent time with me going through what I needed and told me about the 12 week blow dry, have since been back and had this done, cant believe the results hair is in great condition and now only spend 10 mins blow drying my hair insdtead of my normal hour !! They also do amazing deals on the beauty side and their beautician Jean is amazing. Have booked for my “debs” and got great deal on all my needs. Will defenitely go back.

  • Lyndsay says:

Went to Naturelle on Dorset St yesterday on recommendations from here, and i’m so glad I did. 115 quid for colour and cut and blow dry, and v pleased with the job she did. it’s a small place but the staff are lovely and very friendly and welcoming. i’m definitely going back next time, i was very pleased with everything.

  • Natasha Burns says:

Hi Thanks for your Kalla recommendation! I had really long hair with no shape or style and was looking for a short style, drastic change. I called a few hairdressers as I wasn’t sure what exactly I should get done and needed to know they would spend time with me. When I called Kalla they were very nice and they assured me there would be a consultation before the cut to make sure I was happy. I went last week and am delighted with the result, Grainne spent ages making sure I was happy with the style and colour and she gave me a really stylish tailered bob. All the staff are so frendly and genuinely helpful and make you feel like you are important, which is lovely. Also, prices are reasonable
I won’t be going to another hairdressers for a long time!

  • Naomi says:

Radek in Blow on Leeson Street is amazing and very good value!!! I just ran in for a spur of the moment haircut and I’m thrilled with the result. One of the best haircuts I’ve ever had!! Would highly recommend!!!

  • Orls says:

Hi im looking for a REALLY good hairdresser in galway one that can do exactly what i want, im not really worried about the price as its a birthday present, any ideas???

  • ShellBelle says:

Hi Orls – Michelle in Barry’s Hair Studio is very good. Most of the stylists in Barry’s are good actually. Years ago I went to Tara in Visage and she was good but as I say, it was a long time ago so she may not be there anymore. Hope this helps!

  • smileyface says:

I would second Barry’s- paul for cut and vicki for colour. I would not go anywhere else

  • Carol Judge says:

Got my highlights done by Lorna in MECCA in Leopardstown shopping centre , great job , delighted and it was €99 an awfull lot cheaper than Toni and Guy in Dundrum where i went last time and im happier with the result, absolutely recommend her .

  • Anne says:

Kris Morton herself she has a few salons in Dublin Killester, Clare Hall, Artaine, Omni Centre and she is excellent (so are her staff). Attention to detail, great cut and colour spotless salon, coffee, what else do you need;) Its expensive though but worth it. and she give you great advice on keeping your colour and cut in great conditon.

  • Babs says:

I went to different Peter Mark salons over the last 6 years and I was always quite happy with my colour treatment. I have dark blond hair and had easy-meche done to them and the result was always great. With cuts I had mixed experiences however. I went to the place in St Earl Street were I had the colour done and also cuts and was most of the time happy. I tried two different PM places in St. Stephen’s Green shopping centre and one in Sutton and wasn’t happy with the cut. I had the feeling that it was done very rushed and without care. I always had a different person, because by the time I went back my previous hairdresser had left the salon. My colleague also has been going to the same PM for several years now and her hair always looks great, both colour and cut. Also the colour they use does not damage the hair too much. My hair is quite thin and doesn’t like chemicals, but my hair never looked damaged after the colour treatment. All in all I would recommend PM for colour treatments, but not really for cuts, if you want an individual style. The atmosphere in there feels like an assembly line for hair jobs and that is visible in the cut style.

  • porcelain says:

Hey, I’ve pretty much given up trying to find a decent hairdresser in Dublin. I’ve tried all the usual suspects and went to Hessions on the recommendation of this site. I have to say it was better than usual but still required a quick dash home to wash this bouffant doo out! Justin was very helpful, took plenty of time but it was just ok. The blow dry was really awful, the girl was really rough – I thought I was going to lose an eye, then when she asked me if it was ok I did the very unIrish thing and said no. She tried to persuade me that actually it was lovely and that although I thought it was big, it was just the body. I looked like a middle aged woman, which isn’t a good look at my age. All I want is for someone to cut my thick wavy hair into a nice style and to blow dry it well – I know it’s a lot to ask but any ideas, I’m at a loss…

  • Sinead says:

Have to agree with dashing and Lyndsay regarding Naturelle on Dorset St. Went there for a wash, cut and blow dry for my last haircut.

I have short hair and find it difficult to come across a good hairdresser who will be able to give me a good cut with good definition. The girl used about 4 different scissors – she was like a carpenter pulling tools out of her belt!! Lots and lots of people commented on how good a cut she did. And all for €25 – a total steal (I did leave a good tip and she was so good and they were both very friendly, mannerly and generally just nice!)

Overdue a cut now and actually hoping to get an appointment tomorrow!!

  • Tara says:

    Hi There,

First of all, love the site..great fun to come for a read over lunchtume!
I’ve been out and about trying a few different salons over the past year or so and its amazing the different level of service that you can get in different salons.
Anyway, of the few I tried, I liked Hessions, Naturelle and Khaki. There were a few bad experiences too in one or two very reputable places but its probably not fair to write about them here.

Hessions – it wasn’t with Paul Hession but I was assured I had the next best thing – Jackie ( I think). The cut wasn’t anything to write home about if I’m honest but the colour looked good – a little pricey though.
Naturelle – can’t remember the girl’s name but I don’t think it was Lyndsay, the staff were a lot friendlier, really looked after me and made me feel a lot more welcome than in Hessions.

Neither really suited me location-wise so I tried Khaki two weeks ago and loved it, friendly staff, really felt like I was being listened to, nice atmosphere. Alison did my cut and colour and the results are fabulous.

There are good hairdressers out there if you look around :-)

  • Danochka says:

Just want to share my disappointing. Foundation salon in Dublin – I am so, so upset after having my colour done there…. The hairdresser just didn’t care what he is doing! It put me down so much.., after such high expectations…

  • Sonia says:

Hi! I’m currently studying in Galway and I would like to know a good hairdresser but also a non-expensive one, over 25-30€ for wash, cut and blowdry. Any ideas? If it also helps, I’d like to have my hair layered at shoulders lenght, do you know how much is usually charged for that service?

    Thanks in advance!!

  • Zia says:

Hey all, I am from Montreal and lived in Dublin for a yr, and will likely eventually move back. I absoultely LOVE my Montreal hardresser, and had terrible luck in Dublin. I went to Peter Mark twice, the first girl had no idea what she was doing, the second just didnt care – cut was done in less then 5 minutes, and it was so hard to manage.
so this site is really helpful…i have yet to find somewhere good!! and they are all so expensive!

  • Kate says:

Looking for a cheap and good all over colour and cut in South County Dublin was going to Jacql in DAakey but her prices seem to change each time and are slowly getting steeper and steeper. I’m a student so any where reputable and cheap would be great! Any reccommendations??

  • irishbird says:

    hi all

i need a brilliant thick curly hairdresser in dublin city or northside.

i used to go to kevin in whetstone but he moved to moyo at the bleedin horse and it is too far away for me to go to him.

i have spent the last year crying everytime i have left salons, i have done peter mark on grafton street, whetsone on anne street, zeba and house of colour.

i desperately need a good cut, so i can wear my hair down again and stop looking like a mushroom head

    thanks

  • Lisa says:

Hey irishbird – try John at The Room on Aungier Street, he’s great – only works on Tuesdays though

  • danielle says:

hi just wondering has any1 had an upstyle from blow hair dressers on leeson st im having one done there soon and was just wondering if there good

  • claire says:

i just want to voice my annoyance at new image on kilbarrack road, dublin 13. taken over by a new owner a month ago and i got my hair blow dried and asked the girl to put in a little plait at the top of my hair which took 2 minutes to do and the owner tried to charge me an extra 5 euros for it.
then i took a half day off work today to get my colour done and when i got there they had obviously double booked me, but to my annoyance tried to blame me by saying-we’ll never get you done by half 5 as you never told us on the phone how much hair you have! GRR-hairdresser are a law onto themselves if you ask me. on net now trying to find yet another new hairdresser-i go every week and get a blow dry at least and every 6 weeks for colour and cut.i tip well yet no matter what they treat you badly.

  • Maura says:

This forum and site are great.

My normal hairdresser (Henry in Trends on Aungier Street – highly recommend him for a short cut, only €16 for wash, cut and dry) is gone to Hong Kong for a while. So my thanks to Sinead for your recommendation of Naturelle, do you remember the name of the girl who cut your hair?
    Thanks!

  • shell says:

    Hi
Can anyone recommend a good hairdressers for colouring in Dublin? im looking for a dark blonde base with high lights going through, a bit like fergies.
I had my hair done on Saturday and they didnt follow my instructions,
now its just brown with a few barely noticeable streaks of blonde :(

  • Sharon says:

    Hi

Just a little in despair at the hairdressers so far in Dublin. Have really long straight hair all the way down my back, so pretty cautious about what I do to it!!Hadn’t dyed my hair in two years; took the plunge few weeks ago, wanting to lighten and give it some shape and/or volume – the cut has made it flat on top and wispy at the ends no matter how I style it, and my dark blonde is now yellow with almost white highlights, I am so disappointed and was so upset leaving that I only paid for the wash and blowdry – Have to fix it as meeting my boyfriends ENTIRE family for two weeks at Xmas, and dont want them thinking that he’s with a piebald….

    All suggestions welcome!!

PS tried Naturelle in Dorset St as well – really nice, good cutters, not sure about the colour as language barrier was a bit of an issue last time – but really good value for money all round…

  • Ana says:

    Hi,

Am looking to see if anyone has been to Hair Creations in Blackrock? Hastily booked a half head of highlights in frustration at my boring hair and am now slightly nervous as last time I took the highlight plunge in house of colour ended up looking like a crazy badger with red and blonde hair -not the look I was going for ;)

If you can put mind at ease or warn me against them would be much appreciated!!

  • maryellen says:

    HI all
i visited the peter mark salon in the debenhams shopping centre in galway. had a bril experience everyone was so nice and made me feel like a million dollars leaving, my hairdresser was called tara she was so good will definatly be going back there…

  • smileyface says:

Does anyone know where you can get a good wavy blow dry in Mayo, pref castlebar or ballina? I swear they look at me funny when I ask for it in Peter Mark in Castlebar, and it is not that unusual of a request imo…

  • Salsera says:

Mayo, no, but there’s a guy called Will in Valentino in Dublin who can do them. My tip is to look for an older hairdresser who remembers when people wanted volume.

Young ones have 15 years experience of drying hair straight and none of doing it curly. An older hairdresser, preferably the salon trainer, will know how to do one.

    Hope that helps.

  • smileyface says:

    Thanks Salsera :)

  • Pauline Ryan says:

    Paula
Hi, Have short thick hair and find it impossible to get a good cut that is easy to manage. Can you recommend a hairdresser in Dublin city centre or Galway.

  • asha says:

Hi. Can anyone recommend a reasonable hairdresser in Waterford for highlights and a cut?

  • abigail says:

Just want to leave a comment warning all to avoid Berry Hair Salon in Dun Laoghaire. I had a dreadful colouring experience with them last week. When I went back to complain they insisted that my hair had been done properly (it was three different colours from root to tip- clearly not fine!), and refused to even consider giving me a refund or partial refund. Will never be going back.

  • Kate says:

    Hi Paula.
I always go to Prestige salon beside supermacs in Eyre square.Niamh is the name of the Stylist. Brilliant every time she cuts my hair.I really recommend her!

  • Sinead says:

    Maura,

The girl’s name who cut it the first time I went to Naturelle was Oxana. However, she wasn’t there the 2nd time I went and another girl (don’t know her name) cut it – wasn’t as good as the cut that Oxana did, but still was happy with it. Asked the manager where Oxana was and was told she was sick. Went back again Christmas week and Oxana still not there – found out that she’s not working there anymore and that the manager hasn’t heard from her. Got another good cut from the other girl.

Sure give it a go Maura – you can’t beat the price!!
