Men with beards: Yay or nay? And will Brad Pitt ever shave the damn thing off

by Aphrodite, February 8th, 2010 in For Men, Hair & Hair Removal, Polls |

Right, I’ve had enough. I want my objects of lust to look – well lusty. Not like some aul tramp that’s lying in the bushes near the Homeless Centre on the Quays, swigging lighter fluid “cunningly disguised” inside a plastic bag.

Which quite frankly Brad, you are looking like here.

I can’t stop imagining how many crumbs to say nothing of soups and gravies – have made their way into the beard. Ugh.

Although some people are better with beards – e.g. Kings of Leon, as pointed out by Trendspot, most are not.

Yuck – making me throw up in my mouth just looking at that pic

  • Gee Gee says:

Clean shaven or a little bit of stubble is fine but not a full on beard – the only time the boyfriends ever got to beard length, I wouldn’t kiss him or even let me hug me cos I kept thinking of the food that could be left in there. Yuck. Like my man with a little bit of stubble, he’s so cute then :D

  • Anneml says:

Beards just look unhygienic. With the combination of ratty, slightly chewed looking beard and the peculiar hair he’s been sporting for a while Brad Pitt has managed to make himself unattractive and if he can’t carry off that look what hope for an ordinary bloke?

  • sweetie says:

That’s stone’s throw away from Joaquin Phoenix. Or ZZ Top – though I think ZZ Top do manage to pull it off much better than Brad.
Brad needs to hook up with Jen again so she can nurture him back to his gorgeous self – looks like Angie put a spell on him or something. And I was Team Angelina, and I never was a fan of Brad.

I knew a guy who had a fairly neat beard – when he shaved it off he lloked nothing. Otherwise it’s a no no for me.

I noticed on an awards show that the actors from Mad Men ie Donal Draper and Pete both had beards and it was rank on them. Now poor auld pete is nothing much to look at but Donald Draper is drooltastics.

Awh girls, beards are beautiful. Maybe not the unkempt type Brad is sporting, but a nice well-kept beard screams all man to me. Yum yum.

  • Flame says:

Have to agree with kelvis, i like a nice beard, not everyone can pull it off though, most guys look better without!

  • Dawn says:

Beards are really hot on a couple of conditions, they are well-kept, neatly trimmed and look nothing like Brad Pitt’s.

  • Glamazon says:

I definitely like the old beard but not the scraggily chewbacca stylee that Brad’s wearing. Has to be a proper man-beard, no fluffiness or patchiness please. I make no secret of my lust for Sebatian Chabal and luckily my husband has the beard and the long hair to match!

  • Ros says:

    Beards are hott. End of.
I like my men tall, hairy, smelling of a hard days work, hands like spades, thighs like trucks, mad to throw me over his shoulder and drag me back to his cave.
Ye can keep yer metrosexual Beckhams with their floral scents and soft little handines, I’ve never been a Brad fan – but he looks hott now!!

  • Kirstie says:

“hands like spades, thighs like trucks”

    COMMENT OF THE WEEK!

  • Lynnie says:

A good bit of stubble’s ok, but otherwise me no likey.

In real non-celeb non-band life, beards and ‘tasches are for dads as far as I’m concerned.

  • Magpie says:

eew worst pic ever of him – gross

  • Glamazon says:

    Ros :) hilarious….and my sentiments exactly ;)

  • Keila says:

+1 for what Ros says :)

  • Maevie says:

I’d have to agree completely with Kelvis – I’m part of the small minority that thinks most men look better with facial hair! That said, the beard seen above is pretty ridiculous and could use a spot of grooming, not to mention a new home on a less annoying face.

  • Breige says:

Stubble looks good on some guys but I hate it on my boyfriend. And I hate those yeti style beards on men, like Brad above.

  • Emz says:

I don’t like beards of any shape or description, eugh!

  • Bunnybun says:

Beards & facial hair are hot on a certain type of man – not all men. I was told young never to trust a man with a beard, that they have something to hide…… don’t believe it of course but it kind of stuck with me!

Hermione – if you are around I have an update on the Inoa hair colour: I am not very impressed. Washed hair for first time on Friday before heading out for evening and two people commented on how thick and heavy my hair was looking (probably great if you have very thin hair but I have the opposite) and one even commented on how my hair is usually very shiny but wasn’t then :( Even husband thinks it has lots its usual healthy shine. I don’t find the colour half as rich – I actually think it looks a bit faded and dull already. I really want to like it though as the actually process of having hair coloured is much nicer as it is odourless and doesn’t irritate the scalp and it may well have been a bad colour choice. Might see what salon in Westport recommends.

    sh*t…posted in wrong thread

  • Orlando says:

What are these secret ‘benefits’ of beards?!?!!

  • jill says:

Jon Hamm – hot with beard. (and apparantly has a 5 o’clock full beard, rather than mere shadow)

in fact, all of the Mad Men men have grown beards recently

  • Betty says:

My boyfriend has a beard and he’s totally gorgeous :-) But then he does “look like something that was washed up off the Spanish Armada”, as a taxi driver recently put it :-D It is neat and tidy though.

Hate stubble though, it hurts! Or long, messy beards – they’re gank.

  • Felicity says:

UUrrggg xxxx if I had man who had a beard like that I’d have an option b waiting … get my drift

  • Ally says:

My guy has a very sexy black beard :) He keeps it fairly neat, but it looks nothing like Brad’s unkept thing.
