Someone asked me the other day did I have any idea where would be a good place to go and get laser hair removal done – specifically she was interested in getting her upper lip zapped.
It’s quite an appealing idea (to me anyway) actually – all those hours spent either bleaching, waxing, depilating, epilating or tweezing could surely be put to a better use! Coincidentally there was an item on Off The Rails on Wednesday night about this very thing, except the guinea pig in question had it done on her underarms. Yeowch.
Anyway, plenty of places do laser hair removal for all parts of the body, but there are a few drawbacks – it’s really dear, it does sting a bit – and this is the deal breaker really, you have to let the ‘tash grow before they can work on it. Yikes! It’s also not suitable for everyone because the laser actually works on the pigment in the hair, and blondes don’t have enough pigment in theirs.
And how many treatments will it take? Well, the laser only destroys hairs when they are in their growth phase and at any one time 20%-30% of hairs are resting or dormant. Repeated sessions will treat these hairs when they re-enter the growth phase. So 8 to 10 sessions are usually required, and you may need to return once or twice a year thereafter for ‘maintenance’. Expect to pay about €400+ for a complete course.
All that out of the way, where can you get this done?

If you’re thinking whether laser hair removal may be unpleasant or not, consider that the treatment involves several impulses leading to a feeling of itching and slight burn. You may compare the sensation of the laser hair removal treatment with that which you can feels if you take a series of blows with a rubber band. Most patients generally tolerate this feeling without the need for local anaesthesia. However, those who want it can benefit from a cream-based topical anaesthesia. In just a few minutes following the treatment, the skin of the treated area turns a little pink, and you might feel a little sunburned for a couple of days, after everything will be OK.
Here at Berkeley Clinic we are one of the few clinic s in the country to my knowledge that use a system called STARLUX which has “active cooling”.That is the handpiece always stays at just 4 degrees c when we are in contact with the skin
There little or no pain !!!
Also it has a feature called “Photon recycling” which captures 60% of the laser light which is reflected off the skin so it seems to be more effective at removing hair

I’ve been looking for a clinic where I could get a full leg treatment, but the only clinic that offers affordable prices (ie I’m still able to afford my rent and eat 7 days a week) seems to be LowCostLaser.com, but when I emailed they said that their Dublin clinic won’t be opening until later this year.
Does anyone know of anywhere reasonable?
Thanks,
Mary
I found this on the net http://www.rathgarlaserandbeauty.ie

Does anyone know of a good clinic in Cork for laser hair removal and that is affordable?
I’m thinking of getting it done, but have no clue where to get.
Cheers
Hi,
I finished a course of laser hair removal in the bodyclinic. I am hair free. I noticed a big difference in my 3rd session. The bodyclinic are currently offering 70% off laser hair removal. They use the Candella machine which is the best machine on the market. i would highly recommend them. The staff are really nice.
I went to candela in Laserway in Baggott Street, all that I needed was 4 sessions with candela laser and i was hair free
hi,
im just wondering is there anywhere in galway that does affordable laser hair removal? Im thinking of getting it done but im not sure where is good.
Laura – Ann at Dr. Bhatti on Kiltartan House is great. She goes through everything with you and she’s really nice.
I would stay well clear of the place on the Cornstore in Galway. Not sure if I can mention names. I went for a different treatment and found them rubbish (and pretty rude).
Emma Hughes – a few places do consultations for free don’t they?
Hi Emma,
I got IPL done. I wasted money on it. I went to Urbana. I spend a fortune. I am so dissapointed with the salon. I know someone who got hair removal in Therapie though and was happy with the results.I want get it done again but will have to save up the money.let me know how you get on.
Hi All,
I would advise everyone to stay clear of Intensle Pulse Light (IPL) machines. You get crap results. If you are thinking of getting laser hair removal, make sure the clinic uses an Medical Grade Laser like the Alexadrite Candela.
Hi everyone,
one advice don’t go to bodyclinic!!
I come back after my laser hair removal treatment with bodyclinic… 6 months ago… just one word it was awful! my first treatment was just for a tiny aera in my back… Everytime they finished their job I was with a lot of blood and blisters on my back, so painful , about the “service” each time we have different therapist so they don’t know extacly where they work on my body , some of these therapists take a shaver to clean my skin during a session… today I have more hair than the first day and I don’t want to try again with body clinic!
Hey laura,
I know how you are feeling. I went for a consultation in bodybenefits. They are an absoulte rip off. I read in the paper that Therapie is coming to Galway and i heard they have good prices for laser hair removal
I also saw the prices for Rathgar laser and beauty clinic, and the prices seem great. Id love to know if anyone’s been there and did they have a good experience , i’m looking to get my arms done and the price quoted is €450 for 6 sessions, which seems good.

I’ve heard that Arasys on Oliver Plunket St in Cork is good for laser hair removal. I’m saving up for it. They have some big new machine and it works on light hair as well as dark. Will post results as soon as I get it done.
Looking for recomendation for laser treatment on upper lip area, chin and side of face.
Had several treatemnts over the course of 18 months about 10 years ago with MediLaser in Stillorgan and with a dermotologist in Charlemont Clinic about 4 years ago (6 treatments).
Regrowth back again and unsure where to go now. Had hormone levls taken and they are o.k., so that is not the cause.
Any recomendation?
Thanks
I am looking to get my upper lip done, except that I have been bleaching the hair for the last few years- does this mean that i have to basically let it fade back fully to dark before i can get it done? i dont fancy hiding in my room for the next week or so…
Hi guys,
I had my underarms and bikini lasered in Therapie/Bodyclinic Wicklow St, wanted to get my lip done but was told the hair wasnt dark enough and I wouldnt get good results.
I was wary too because of the negative reviews but am very happy with the results. Wouldnt say its the friendlist salon ever but my therapist was excellent and the results speak for themselves (also great price if you pay upfront). I think it also depends on your therapist i.e. if they are qualified/very experienced. I started off doing IPL but was told to switch to laser and am so glad I did as Ive since learnt IPL is just not as effective. Ive thick dark hair and pale so obviously a v. good candidate for laser. I was plagued by ingrowns and rashes no matter what I did eg shaving, waxing, epiliating.. I tried it all.
Im thinking of getting my legs done now as so happy with the results. And the ingrowns on my legs are quite bad, also Ive sensitive skin and always get rashes after air removel (except laser) However, I did find it extremely painful so thats all thats putting me off!! I dont know why they say it doesnt hurt beacause it does.. well it did for me anyway!
hi everyone, im looking to get my back done and was wondering if anyone knew a price around how much it costs usually, also where should i go around the Galway location to get it done? any ideas would be greatly appreciated. i was looking at “Laserderm Clinic”, in Galway if anyone has had past experiences with the clinic please share!
I just finished doing my lip and underarms at the Laserderm Clinic in Claregalway and am starting my legs on saturday, haven’t had any problems with treatment saw a big difference after my very first session. Their pricing is slightly more than Therapie in Galway but they seemed to know more about laser/ipl than when i had my consultations at 2 other clinics. They use IPL but its a medical grade ipl and the hair must be dark. Im totally addicted to hair removal now and can’t wait not to have to wax my legs next summer
Hi Everyone
Thanks for your comments, they’ve helped greatly. I tried urbana in Dublin for a few treatmetns and I am not happy with them. The first girl was great but after that not so much. One girl did not cover all the area after the first girl SHAVED it over so now it is worse than ever. I have consulation with therape tomorrow and am really hoping they are better at it.
Hey!
Was thinkin of getting laser on my upper lip in therpie in galway! Has anyone been there for that procedure yet?
Hi Ladies,
Im thinking of taking the plunge & getting lasered.
Has anyone anything good to say about anywhere in Dublin?
Somewhere called renew & another called berkeley were mentioned in previous articles but no real post treatment reports that i can find. Im v.hairy, figured if im going to do it I should go to the experts.
