SS10: Chanel Le Vernis in Particulière

Lynnie gave us a sneaky peek of Chanel’s oh-it’s-totally-gonna-be-a-must-have nail colour back in October and we all discussed the pros and cons of mushroom nail polish at the time. Sweetie1 said, “I’m loving this shade,” but PinkPanther declared firmly, “not a fan.”

Well, that polish, more specifically called Particulière, will arrive on counter on the 29th and it’ll cost €21. It’s joined by two pretty bedfellows, Inattendu, a peachy beige and Tendresse, a peachy pink.

It’s probably the most mainstream and wearable range of nail shades we’ve seen from Chanel for a while and it’ll appeal across the board I think – trendsetters will be rocking Particulière just like they have Rouge Noir, Vendetta and Jade in previous seasons, but the other two are work, rest, play AND bridal friendly. What do you reckon, though? Is your imagination fired by the trio and will you be lining up come the launch day to buy?

LOVE the look of Particulière. Looks gorgeous on the model in the picture. Wonder how gorgeous it’ll look on my less than perfect nails. Hmm.

  • Orlando says:

The mushroom one was mank and still is! The only one you’d catch me wearing would be the middle one, which would be if I absoutely had to coz all my other nail varnishes went on holiday together and left it behind, because it’s just not popular!

    NOT pretty!

  • Glamazon says:

That Inattendu colour looks a bit like Chanel’s Sahara Beige…an awful colour that makes my normally white nails look old and nicotine stained.

  • Kirstie says:

I would really have to try this to get off the fence. It doesn’t grab me and I don’t really want to spend €21 to confirm my preferences, TBH.

  • xgirl says:

They look pretty in the picture, but I’m not sure they’d suit me on. I’ll sample them at the counter to see, however.

  • Joanne says:

    v. expensive for what they are

  • ceci says:

I like the middle one, i really hate the mushroom colour, think it just looks dirty

  • sweetie says:

Ah, I’ll stick to You Don’t Know Jaques by OPI – one of my most favorite shades ever.

Chanel is so late with jumping on the mushroom-y nail polish bandwagon, I wouldn’t call it a trend-setting color at all…

  • sweetie1 says:

I do love this shade (and the fact that I’m quoted in the post :D ) however, I don’t think I’ll pay €21 for it these days, on a cost reduction phase!! Think I’ll pick up a bourgois or rimmel version.

  • Emz says:

I too will stick to OPI’s “You Don’t Know Jacques” which is alot nicer than any of these & €21 is a bit steep for any nail varnish IMO.

  • Kirstie says:

pricing-wise, Chanel is a upscale, luxury line, so that accounts for price differentials. Salon mani ranges aren’t in the same bracket so they’re cheaper. But this is the great thing about beauty; if you can’t afford one brand, you’ll always find a dupe elsewhere for less!

  • Magpie says:

mm not a fan either sorry
mucho prefer dark glossy shades for moi

  • Glamazon says:

The one thing I do like about Chanel’s varnishes is that they last for years…says 18 months on the bottle but I have some that are years old and they are still like new…no gloops or watery-ness. I do quite like the mushroom colour (matches my office walls!) but I don’t think it will look well on me.

  • LouLaBelles says:

Really liking the middle one! It looks like the pink in the SS10 Dior collection. The chanel is worth checking out to compare.
    Little pricey though.

  • sweetie says:

Kirstie, I only have one Chanel polish, so it’s hard to compare, but in general I think salon polish ranges are better quality than posh brands’ polishes…

  • Kirstie says:

yep I’d agree, but quality and price-points are two separate things. I was explaining the positioning and that’s why chanel is dearer than OPI but yus, any brand that specialises tends to be the one to go for if you want the latest innovation, science, shades etc etc

  • sevda says:

I like the 503 one there.

I’m not loving the mushroom shade but not hating it either.

  • sweetie says:

;) Kirstie, I didn’t mean is as an isult – would NEVER questin beaut.ie founders’ point of view :P

To be honest, Chanel (and Dior) is my to-go brand when I want to treat myself for something pretty :) And their polishes are always wearable… Oh, have to stop, or I’ll make a beeline to BTs for a treat :D

  • PinkPanther says:

Don’t like any of them – esp hate the mushroom. Maybe on dark skinned ladies but even then, I’m just convinced

  • Senebabe says:

I really couldnt justify paying €21 for a nail varnish! Catrice – the cheap brand you can get in Dunnes and some pharmacies have a dupe of that mushroomy colour and its only something like €2 or €3. I tested on my nails in the shop and rather liked it but went for a black one instead! (at that price I should have bought both but hubbie was with me giving me funny looks!!!) Will defo be going hunting for it now!!

  • Kirstie says:

sweetie – by all means, question away!!!

  • miffyonline says:

    Another YDKJ fan here.

I also have 2 Orly shades which are very similar )I think) to the Chanel mushroom shade – Country Club Khaki and Prince Charming. I’ll make do with those.

  • Babaduck says:

Listen, if any of you have that Particuliere shade & don’t want it, please PLEASE let me know & I’d be delighted to swap siopa with you!!!

  • Trigger says:

Hi Babaduck – can you remind me of the website where you get all your nail varnish from again? I remember you saying they were great value… Thanks!

  • Jeannie says:

I don’t like the pink one but LOVE the other two. Horses for courses! I have half a dozen silvery-mushroomy colour variations already, and I reckon even if you don’t instantly love it in the bottle, it’s worth trying it on just to see. I think it looks elegant, “finished” and not too cutesy.

  • Product Junkie says:

    evening all
have to say i adore Chanel nail polish and will defo be picking up the pinky one…
Think it will be lovely on toes for the summer flip flops ( heres hoping we get some sun this year)

What other brands would you recommend as I always just stop at Chanel and pick something up, have to say they really do last forever

  • Babaduck says:

    Trigger

I use http://www.transdesign.com Order at least 6 bottles as you pay a flat rate of shipping

  • Anneml says:

Glamazon you are so right about Chanel polishes lasting for ever don’t seem to go gloopy for YEARS!
Those, however, are not shades I would want to last, why would I want to paint my nails manky beige??

  • Essjay23x says:

I have never tried a Chanel nail polish but it sounds like if I ever find a signature colour then it might be a bit of an investment if they last as long as you all suggest!
I keep thinking brown nails, hmmm not sure about that, but there is something about this grey-brown colour which keeps drawing me back to the picture. It reminds me of some of my eye colours and I guess a lady should match. . !

  • floozie says:

I got one of Christmas nail colours from Chanel, Trapeze, in the airport in Paris and it was only €16! Kind of a goldy shimmery version of the mushroom one; more wearable I think.

  • jannior says:

Love the mushroom one. Bit steep in price for me though, so bought no.7 iced mocha and its a similar shade, with a hint of metallic in it. yum.

  • Rachel says:

Just asked a girl at work about her gorgeous nail polish which turned out to be Particulière! It looks gorgeous on her – very classy but also very difficult to get I believe! Way nicer in real life than the pics!

  • browneyes says:

I got a Barry M nail polish the other day that looks quite similar to Particulière called Mushroom, if not it might be a slightly warmer brown?
Just in case anyone is interested :)

  • LuLuBabe says:

I’m wearing inattendu today. I find it looks crap on my nails when they’re shorter but when they’ve a bit of length, it looks better. HOwever, the formulation is not great – without three coats, it streaks like mad. I’d expect more for the money. I tried out Particuliere and love it on my pale hands, and plan to pick it up on my next duty free trip (Chanel stuff is only 19 USD in US duty frees)
