Alice in Wonderland from Opi and Urban Decay

opi

I’m pretty sure you can’t have failed to have seen advance shots from Tim Burton’s forthcoming remake of Alice in Wonderland, due to sashay onto celluloid in March. Psychedelically colourful, Johnny Depp’s reprising his really-getting-tired-now Wacky Character (TM) schtick as he’ll play the Mad Hatter, and it seems he wasn’t the only one inspired by the production.

Nope, beauty brands are all over it too – Opi will launch their Alice in Wonderland collection at the end of the month and Urban Decay have a fabulous pop-up palette incoming too. Lets check out Opi’s offering first, shall we?

Four polish shades, plus a set of minis, will be arriving. Shades? Oh, you want to know about them? OK! From left to right we have Absolutely Alice, a blue glitter; Off With Her Red; Mad as a Hatter, a multi-glitter and Underland, a glittering red. I don’t have precise price info but am guessing in and around the €14-€15 mark, possibly around €20 for the mini set.

So, do you want to get a look at what Urban Decay have up their Alice-lovin’ sleeves?

alice-in-wonderland_grp

Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows contains 16 best-selling eye shadows, (re-named, as far as I can make out, for this set) plus two travel-sized 24/7 Eye Pencils and a dinky Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It’s going to be a Debenhams-exclusive, it’ll cost €37 and you’ll find it in stores in March.

Will you be suckered into the Alice hype? If so, what’ll you get your paws on?

Ohhhh opi… in love! I’m liking off with her red & mad as a hatter the most, kind of disapointed that there are two reds in this collection tho… not very inspiring but non the less i have been sucked in!
I will probably get the mini set it’s on transdesign for like $6 something at the mo.
Also liking the urban decay stuff if i’m honest i’m an urban decay virgin! So not sure what i’m missing out on! xx

  • Kirstie says:

the thing I like about the UD palette is the pop-upness of it. Could take or leave the actual shadows!

  • ceci says:

I love the look of UD palettes and this one looks gorgeous, but I have to say their shadows have unbelievable fallout, drives me mental! And I think they go a bit overboard on the glitter, so I don’t think their palettes are really for day time use.

  • Sparkle101 says:

Ceci – agreed, there’s way too much glitter for day time. Also are these not very similar colours to previous Book of Shadows? I already have a Book of Shadows but if I didn’t I would definitely be tempted by the pop-upedness!! (it’s a word)

  • daiseeboo says:

Really like the look of Mad as a Hatter and Underland. Shall be adding those to the bday wish list me thinks!

  • Dar says:

Cant wait for this palette :) i have the book of shadows 2 and i use it all the time .. i never have fall out , maybe because i use primer?? and there is one or 2 with to much glitter but the rest are lovely :)

  • cristabelle says:

OMG I don’t even use eyeshadow but I want this. Alice in Wonderland is my favourite book ever :)

  • Ruth says:

roxy, do transdesign ship to ireland.. had a look at the website but couldnt see any info… i like the ideas of the mini kits as i never use up nail varnishes and they just go manky

  • sweetie says:

Ruth, the do indeed, and so does head2toebeauty.com if you are looking for polish e-tailers :)

I don’t think I’ll be buying the palette… mainly because I have my eye on the lace Dior one ;) But, of course, I’ll have to see the UD one in ‘person’ – I can always change my mind :D

  • Sha Sha says:

LOVE LOVE LOVE! and even though i most likely have every single UD color in the pallet already i’ll buy it cos I’m (a) an Alice in WO WO land fan and (b) I’m a sap and an UD junkie…

  • Joanne says:

I just don’t get on with UD eyeshadows at all, have bits of eyeshadow down my cheek even after using primer. The glitter is too much as well. Pity cos this is a cute set

  • Dobby says:

Love the OPI stuff. Really want Absolute Alice and Off with Her Red. Will be going to 8ty8beauty for these.

  • roxette says:

sweetie – any idead how much head 2 toe charge for shipping?

  • roxette says:

Also noticed that Head 2 toe please sell the much hyped Queen Helene Mint Julep mask!
My poor credit card is shaking in my wallet!

  • roxette says:

i dont know where the “please” in my last post appeared from doh
    they def. sell it!

  • Olaola says:

I just bought Mad as a Hatter two days ago online, as a treat to myself for finishing my uni coursework ;) I’ve been drooling all over the screen looking at it for weeks now, can’t wait to get it in the post!!

  • mamabear says:

Love, love the UD palette! Can’t do nailvarnish (am rubbish at it) so couldn’t be bothered with the OPI :-) . I have to say I’m surprised at people’s comments on UD eye shadows. The glitter fallout is a known fact but I didn’t realise that others had issues with their regular eyeshadows aswell! I loooooove UD eyeshadows, have never found another brand as good and never had problems with fallout (apart from the glitter ones which I don’t use). All my friends keep buying me Benefit crap which I don’t like but nobody seems to like UD :-( . I must be the only one…

  • sweetie says:

Roxette, even tho I just got 8 polishes from them few weeks ago, I don’t remember exactly what the delivery was – either 15 or 19 dollars. But, here’s the thing – I bought 1 OPI, 1 Misa, 1 Color Club and 5 China Glaze polishes, and all with the delivery came to 32 euro :) So clearly value for money ;)

  • roxy says:

roxette shipping from transdesign costs me about
$14, its generally very quick aswell! Ohhh just went out and bought the urban decay book of shadows vol 2 on my lunch break…
cant wait to try them out now! x

  • Anneml says:

Of course I will be succumbing to the OPI goodness – obviously I don’t have enough nail polish in my life!

  • roxette says:

thanks girls. yiz are a mine of info! Am soo excited to try the peppermint mask. Everyone over on makeupalley seem to heart it.

  • cathyfly says:

    Love those reds!

  • baby in a corner says:

i love urban decay eyeshadows, I only have fallout from the glitter ones but if I’m careful and pat on I usually don’t get any. The colour pay off is amazing! does anyone know the actual shadows that are in it? I already have the two other book of shadows as well as a load of individual shadows.

  • Breige says:

That UD kit looks gorgeous, mainly for the mirror and pop up effect!

  • sha Sha says:

this show a close up of the colors in the kit..tbh..i think they’ve pretty much just changed the names of some that are already out.Not convinced that theres anything new there?

  • I will be getting the palette! I have BOS Vol 2 and I really like it. I also love 2 colours of those varnishes.

  • miffyonline says:

I got the first book of shadows and rarely use them. Definitely too much glitter for me – I’d love a glitter-free version of Midnight Cowboy as it is the most gorgeous shade.

I think I’ll pass on the UD palette as I have waaaay too many shadows for now/ever.

Re the OPI shades, there are some amazing pics out there of the shades on nails which can help you decide if they are for you. Mad as a Hatter is way too much glitter for me, and I think I would prefer China Glaze’s Dorothy Who? to the Alice shade. Haven’t seen either IRL yet though.

Definitely go for H2T or transdesign although H2T no longer ship China Glaze out of the US.

  • Mags says:

I usually buy opi ofd eBay I must give trans… A go are they good does delivery take long

  • baby in a corner says:

miffyonline, there is a glitter free version of midnight cowboy, its called sellout and its in the book of shadows volume II! i’m not sure if its available to buy on its own though

  • baby in a corner says:

just looked at the link that sha sha put up and it looks like if you have the first two book of shadows that you have at least seven of them, so i probably won’t get this now, cute as it is.

  • Product Junkie says:

love the UD book of shadows even got one off a friend for xmas however I dont go near any of the glitter shadows coz the glitter ends up on my cheeks
    not a good look for a 30 year old…
    any tips ladies :-)

  • miffyonline says:

    baby in a corner,
thanks for that, i’ll look out for sellout in the States next month, maybe it’s available on its own there.

I am tempted to de-pot my Book of Shadows into a magnetic palette, I have to say the box is really annoying and gimmicky and takes up too much space. I watched a youtube video on it and while I have de-potted several MAC shadows I’m afraid to give the BoS a go!

  • miffyonline says:

Woo hoo Sephora stock ‘Sellout’ – I’ll pick it up there in Feb. Thx again for the tip.

  • PurpleHaze says:

product junkie, do you use an eyeshadow primer? that usually helps with fallout:)

  • Product Junkie says:

    purplehaze
I use the primer potion from Urban Decay it always seems to fall and I end up with glitter on my cheeks and its like it keeps falling down
not a good look for me
I have tried everything like putting tissue under my lashes to catch any strays but it still happens.
I think I am lovely and get a look in the mirror and I look like a 4 year old child did my eye make up

  • PurpleHaze says:

yeah i have that urban decay primer too, got it with the pallet i think. Its not great. Too Faced Shadow Insurance is better but i think the urban decay eyeshadows are just too glittery, though midnight cowboy is really nice

  • Product Junkie says:

yep totally agree too much glitter for my liking however love the packaging
will try the too faced shadow insurance
    thanks for your help
hopefully i can return the favor soon

  • Emz says:

Ordered the OPI mini set online last night for $6.11, bargain!

  • Alice Collins says:

I’ve ordered the minis from ebay, can’t wait to get them, 11.50 for 4 mini bottles.

  • candycane3387 says:

I really lik the look of mad as a hatter !
Do they sell OPI in dubin ?

  • Dar says:

Do you know where in Dublin i will be able to buy the palette? The only Debenhams i know of was in the Jervis centre and its now arnotts.

  • Kirstie says:

    yup:

    Dublin – Blackrock
    Dublin – Blanchardstown
Dublin – Henry Street (now where roches was)
    Dublin – Tallaght

  • Ruby Tuesday says:

I have UD book of shadows 2 and yes, lots of the colours look similar which is a bit disappointing. But I’m a sucker for beautiful packaging so the palette is definitly on my wish list all the same!

  • Jane says:

Got mine today! Yay!! Love it!

  • ~brownbella~ says:

    ooooooooh!!! lovely x
