The Dr Hauschka way: don’t use nightcream

If you haven’t tried Dr Hauschka yet I feel honour bound to introduce you to the range. I’d never used it before a couple of years ago, when I heard two lovely ladies in work discussing its fabulousness.

“Whats this?” I said, immediately tuning in. Oh it’s great they enthused. And they told me ALL about Dr Hauschka. About the blushers they can’t live without. About the skin creams. About the Neem oil handcream.

And all about the fact that this range is holistic, all natural and cruelty free. Your skin or hair or nails are not treated by simply applying creams or ungents or oils. Instead your mood, the seasons and the way your body works are all taken into account to ensure you are getting optimum benefit from the range.

It’s a very different way to treat your skin though – a way which can seem strange to those of us used to tradional skincare regimes . There are seven steps to perfect skin the Dr Hauschka way – and one of the most important of these is: don’t use night cream.

Why on earth not? Well this is the explanation:

“While you sleep your skin is actually hard at work regenerating itself, balancing oil production and expelling impurities. Regular application of night creams interferes with these essential tasks, and over time skin becomes less able to care for itself. Covering the skin with moisturizer 24 hours a day sends a signal to sebaceous glands to cut down on moisture production, resulting in even drier skin that becomes dependent on moisturizing products just to appear “normal.”

A Dr. Hauschka regimen allows the skin to carry on its important night work. Balanced healthy skin needs nothing more than cleansing and toning before bed. Dr. Hauschka Rhythmic Night Conditioner is a water-based formula infused with rose essential oil and dynamic plant extracts that supports renewal and balances oil production. Use it for 28 days, mirroring and supporting the skin’s natural cycle of regeneration to encourage a return to a healthy, balanced complexion.”

Those who love Dr Hauschka swear by this system. Go to www.drhauschka.com to find out more about this unique range. Maybe you’re already a convert? Me, I LOVE the handcream and the neem oil hair and nail ranges.

Deb I’ve just ordered the entire night range too -I have dry skin – and I’ve been wondering if it’s gonna suit my skin at all. What have you been doing about eyecream – can you use any?

  • Deb says:

    Hi Aphrodite,

No, I didn’t use any eye cream and I honestly don’t think it will suit your dry skin. Maybe I didn’t give it long enough?? But a month should be enough to judge a product’s effectiveness, what do you think?

  • Aphrodite says:

Yeah I think so… Hmmm don’t know now – I’m stuck with a shedload of products. Look I think I’ll give it a go – nothing ventured nothing gained and all that!

The girls in work who love the no nightcream method though don’t have the same skin as me… aaagh indescision

  • Deb says:

Absolutely, you should give it a go, it could be perfect for you! Please let me know how you get on.

Deb, your story sounds like mine! I also have sensitive normal/dry skin (I get dry patches too). About a month ago I started with Dr. Hauschka and find it ok but am not entirely happy. Will stick with it for another little while and then might need to reconsider. What are you thinking of trying now? Would be interested to hear if you have any ideas of any other products which might be suitable. I need to stick with something natural as I have extremely sensitive skin

    Deb,
I think you need a couple of months to gauge a new products, especially when it’s more natural ingredients than you’re used to.
The skin absorbs 60% of whats put on it, and unfortunately many products, though effective in the short-term, are essentially a chemical cocktail. The rhythmic conditioners from Hauschka are designed to clear your skin of previous cosmetics, and it’s natural for your skin to dry, or even break out as those chemicals come out. Once your skin begins to produce it’s own oils again, you’ll notice the benefits…..reason to stock up on good quality omega fats too.

Good luck with the natural way!

  • Aphrodite says:

Thanks Paula, that’s really good to know. Any words of advice on the eye cream though?

  • Paula says:

    Hello Aphrodite,

I have been using the Daily Replenishing Eye cream from Hauschka, which is lovely and light, and has lasted ages. I alternate with Dr Theiss Calendula Eye Gel, which gives a tightening effect.

My two cents: Avoid drinking much fluid before bed, watch salt and MSG intake if eyes are puffy, and use a raspberry leaf or chamomile teabag, steeped then cooled, to alleviate redness and irritation.

Sorry for taking so long to reply to your posts. I have stopped using Dr. Hauschka
gone back to La Roche Posay. I had used LRP for so long that I was really desperate for a change! I have rosacea and very sensitive skin and the Toleriane cleanser/moisturiser along with the Thermal Spa Water is excellent (might be worth a try for your skin Fiona??) The thing about Dr. Hauschka is that while it is certainly gorgeous to use, it just did nothing for me…so much dryness… I had dry patches in places I never had them before, even my eyebrows were starting to flake!!
I appreciate your point Paula, but sometimes the devil you know and all that :-)

  • Aphrodite says:

Thanks for your knowledge ladies – my DrH has all been delivered and I’m going to try it for sure – thanks for the eye cream tip Paula!

  • sunny says:

Ren rose cleaser and the exfoliator are lovely, they are 20 each but they are in big 150ml containers and will last for month, chemical free pure natural skincare.

  • Sian Owens says:

I think Avon Anew Night repair is very good, I couldnt imagine going to bed without using a night cream, ugh the thought of it.

  • ali says:

    Hey Girls

How do Dr H reconcile the fact that they don’t have a sun factor within their products. I really like them, but am slow to use them because their’s no sun protection?

  • Hana D says:

I bought the Made from Earth Olive Night Creme a couple weeks ago, and I’ve applied it every morning and every night, and my eyes have definitely lightened up and look fresher. It doesn’t work instantaneously, but what skin care product does? If you use it everyday, within a couple weeks, you’ll see a difference. . .
