SS11: Bobbi Brown Pretty Powerful Palettes

bobbi brown

Landing on counter in January are two new palettes from Bobbi Brown. Pretty Powerful was a BB initiative from last year that featured real women wearing her products, and the two new palettes - one pretty, one powerful - take the name and are designed to be easy to wear shades that us normal people'll put on each day.

Pink abounds in these offerings because Bobbi wanted to emphasise the beauty of a healthy-looking complexion apparently, and while there's no great difference between the pair on a first glance, I reckon Pretty will suit a fairer skintone slightly better than Powerful, which contains marginally stronger shades.

Each features five new colours as well as some old favourites, and both will cost €50 (£42STG, so bravo, Bobbi).

These pix were taken under artificial light, so keep that in mind! The palette is about four-and-a-half inches in length by about three deep and is her signature glossy black with a printed lid. Embellishment seems to be a bit of a theme for the brand for 2011 - British Beauty Blogger has the gen on a March launch from Bobbi Brown which features a neoprene printed casing.

Here are the glosses - I am incredibly taken by Bubble Bath Lip Gloss, the bright shade in the middle.

Swatches of the shadow shades, taken under flash. I haven't used this yet but swatch-wise, the shades feel creamy and nicely-pigmented - you get three mattes and one sparkle, the pink.  Blush is also matte and each palette has a sheer lip colour and two glosses, one of which contains glitter.

So, a tightly-focused shade choice and the mix of textures lifts it out of the ordinary. Any downsides? Well, if you're not into pink, then this is a no-no, and those who object to mixing shadow and gloss in the one palette probably won't be feeling it either.
