Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Polish: Brings Back Memories Of Childhood Scratch 'N' Sniff Stickers

When I was five, lunchtimes would be spent looking around the classroom, eyeballing my peers and asking, 'So, what's your poison?'. My own addiction would be tucked into the front pocket of my school bag, ready to be traded if one of my fellow addicts could offer me something good.

Yes, I admit it - I was addicted to scratch 'n' sniff stickers. Other kids had fancy paper collections (amateurs) and a select sporty few dealt in football cards (not pink enough for my tastes). But my whiffy wonders were kept in pages of a photo album, protected by that plastic cover that could be peeled off if you just had to have a quick fix of artificial strawberry scent.

REVLON parfumerie

So the five year old in me was quite happy to hear about the upcoming launch of Revlon's Parfumerie. This is a range of twenty polishes, divided into three sniffy families, each being a hybrid of polish and scent.

It may sound like a concept better suited to tweeny boppers but this is targeted at the all grown up wimmin. Though I suspect nostalgia will be a factor in many purchases, and the cute vintage bottle certainly plays on that feeling of yore.

The three scent collections are:

  • Freshes - crisp and clean fragrance notes. The five lacquers here are Beachy, Fresh Linen, Lavender Soap, Surf Spray and Wintermint.
  • Sweets and Spices - spicy and woody. There are seven in this collection and you can choose from Autumn Spice, Bordeaux, Chocolate Truffle, Espresso, Italian Leather, Moonlit Woods and Spun Sugar.
  • Fruits and Florals - oriental and fruity. Eight options here that include African Tea Rose, Apricot Nectar, China Flower, Ginger Melon, Lime Basil, Orange Blossom, Pink Pineapple and Wild Violets.

Shake the bottle gently, pop on two coats and it promises to give a fragrance that lasts all day. On application it smells like any other varnish (so do not start taking whiffs from the bottle) but within a few minutes, you'll be, eh, sniffing your nails. I must be honest - that does sound a bit kooky to me.

The scent is designed to last for up to 48 hours but the life of your manicure will suffer because you can't use a top coat with these babies.

Revlon Parfumerie will launch in March at Boots and you'll get change for a tenner.

So what do you think of the range? Is it gimmick or great? And would you sit beside someone on the bus who kept sniffing their talons?
