Need some Hairapy?

lavera basisYou may not know this, but in fact hair suffers as a result of stress just as much as your skin. In times of emotional turmoil, stress and overwork, our skins tend to react - and it's highly visible.

But with hair, you're inclined to think 'ah, I'm just having a bad hair day' and tie it back. If it persists, you buy x number of expensive intensive conditoners, which mask the problem, but don't cure it. As a rule of thumb, your scalp should move when you place a hand on your head and push it back and forwards - if it doesn't, your scalp is tight and constricted, and not getting an adequate blood supply - and of course that all impacts on how your hair looks.

As a commenter pointed out in the initial post on Hair Saturday - doh, of course hair suffers from stress, and yep, conditions like alopecia are the manifestation of that. But that's not what I'm going to be talking about here, more about how lifeless and dull hair can be as a result of stress. So if you're having hassles with your barnet, and you're not too sure why, this could be the root cause. (root cause, geddit?)

Like skincare, haircare needs to be specific and targeted, and that's one of the reasons we're big Kersatase fans at beaut.ie. But they're certainly not the only ones developing hair care products to address specific issues. I'm loving Lavera's entire Basis range (a collection of must have easy to use and hassle free organic products) but in particular their Basis Sensitiv Regenerative Shampoo for Dry & Stressed Hair.

It's wholly organic ingredients include aloe vera, vitamin b5 and lime blossoms which help restore dry, stressed and colour treated hair - and they do it gently. It contains nothing that might add strain to already hassled hair - no chemical additives, no parabens and no nasty surprises. I've been using it regularly on my terrible barnet of extra frizz, and it's a lovely calming product. I got mine from purelyu.com, and it was €6.49.

And here's another little hint - it's fantastic at cleaning makeup brushes too! I always use a good quality shampoo to clean my brushes - what's not good enough for my hair just will not get a look in for brushes. This stuff very gently cleans and softens my brushes, leaving them in excellent condition.
