Your First Outfit of AW15 in 3 Easy Pieces

There is no denying it, autumn has arrived. True, I just went on a coffee run without a coat, but there's a nip in the air. As well as a slight smell of rotting leaves. And there's a hint of delinquency in the atmosphere which must mean the kids are back to school.

Don't be too sad about the end of summer though because autumn means a whole new era for your wardrobe. This year's A/W offerings are pretty great, we must say; there's a load of variety and scope for mixing and matching.

A definite investment is a pair of flared jeans. We discovered these ones at Heatons yesterday and they are fabulous! Very comfy and flattering and they are only €25. The flare isn't too wide either, so if you're a bit apprehensive they're a good gate-way into bell-bottom town.

Since it's not quite warm enough to break out your big fat jumpers yet, we would just wear a simple semi-loose black or white tee tucked into the flares. You will, however, need something that can be easily whipped on and off for when the sun disappears behind a cloud, then comes out again, then disappears once more, then comes out again...

This cape from Penneys is just the thing for the job.

When paired with the flares you would have the coolest '70s vibe going on, but worn with black cigarette pants and heels and you've got an unexpectedly chill element to your otherwise elegant ensemble.

This A/W season, if you buy only one pair of boots, make them high. Knee high. Or over the knee if you really want to rock the trend that was all over the Saint Laurent catwalk. Maybe you still have a pair from the last time they were in style, which was about two minutes ago, but if you've completely worn those babies down, try this pair from River Island for style.

River Island knee high boots, €85

I love knee high boots. Iwear them with mini skirts, over skinny jeans (yeah, you still can definitely do that) and under flares - if the flare from the knee is wide enough; wearing knee high boots is my favourite way to keep my calves warm.

The thing I like most about autumn and winter style is that it doesn't vary dramatically from  year to year. I have a pair of River Island flares in my possession that I inherited from my friend who gave them to me at least five years ago (that I've been wearing apologetically every year since) and I have a pair of knee high tan boots - coincidentally, also from River Island - that I bought in college. And that was ages ago. I also have (my boyfriend's) Mexican poncho that I'll be spraying with Febreeze and pulling over me on chilly September days.

Sure, Claudia Schiffer has been wearing flared jeans on the school run for years!
