Sneak Peek at Autumn Winter 2015 from Penneys!

Friday was a good day. Not only was it my birthday, but it was the day the press awaited the eagerly anticipated arrival of the hottest collection in town. Each season we build to it. Why? Well that innate mix of affordability and fashion is married, albeit to the beat of a very trendy drum, which I will happily dance to all season. Myself and editor Andrea were jaw-droppingly inspired and we just couldn’t hold onto to all that “next season” excitement without sharing with you beauties. Yep, it’s our long term friend and fashion accomplice, Penneys. Getting to see collections before they hit the shops is always a highlight of the job, but when it’s one that gives your fashion filled heart a healthy palpitation, then we go to all new levels of loving.

Penneys know how to do it, and do it well. They’ve yet to fail me with innovative ways to embody seasonal trends without having to spend the dollars. Speaking of dollars, it’s a big year for our greatest retail export, as Penneys (or Primark) move into the US. The US is gonna get a whole lotta love from our Penneys. But back home, they still love us (don’t worry) and promise us the best of the bestest collections for AW15.

The collection satisfies me as a journalist in one very significant way, in that’s it’s trends and high end feel. You only have to look at the new season imagery to know this. Fabrics are feminine with lace and velvet giving us a soft but decadent vibe for the colder months. We can praise the fashion gods that the bohemian frenzy is sticking around, so don’t throw away your flares just yet. Layering will be the new season interpretation of the seventies vibes of summer, with shades getting a little darker and more opulent. And yet with all the feminine vernacular comes the edginess. “With the band” pays a tribute to punk and rock, so the look is more defined, maybe even cocky in the best possible way. Expect leather and a shorter hem on your mini skirt for this one. We can’t have a season without the knits, and Penneys inspire us with fringing, draping and in their words, cocooning. Yep, it’s all about snuggles.

Penneys want us to be brave with our fashion, so take the reigns on your wardrobe and get busy. It’s time to be fierce.

Our top picks from the new collection:

  • THOSE shoes

Miu Miu are all over these, the seventies fuelled heel with a textured leather are all the press were talking about last week. In a dark burgundy and black, the new season platform is a must have.

  • Full length lace

I stared at this dress for at least half an hour. There’s a  bohemian feel but somewhere in it, there’s a dark romance going on. Whether it’s the high neckline, the sheer sleeves or it’s all out drama, we heart it.

  • The poncho

Keeping warm is our priority but layer this poncho over a pair of leather trousers, an a-line skirt with opaque tights or just some jeans, and cosiness morphs into chic.

  • White lace

With an ever present vintage feel, Penneys forays with white lace are beautiful. A collared dress with bell sleeve, to a high neck Victorian blouse, your work wardrobe will be rejuvenated.

The new season palette embraces all things wine: burgundy, merlot, claret are all shades with which to become familiar. Dresses and knits are the key players and add the midi length vintage tea dress to your Christmas list.
