Makeup for Hair? Yep, Color Rebel from Redken Has Arrived

Two factors made me want to try Redken Color Rebel Hair Makeup. When I saw it I immediately thought of what fun we (were supposed to have) had with hair mascara back in the day and the second was I was sneakily watching an episode of Pretty Little Liars and Hannah had dyed the underparts of her blonde hair black. Sounds skunk-like but it was actually pretty cool.

I brought it home with me this evening and gave it a go. The instructions make it sound like it's a bit of a science experiment. You must: Open Cap. Remove plug, discard. Push in sponge completely. Etc etc, I'm not going to bore you with the details.

Anyway, when push comes to shove it's just like putting on a load of hair mascara but with a sponge instead of a tiny wand. It's quite a cool contraption actually and you can use it as many times as you like. Well as many times as the dye lasts I suppose. Once you've got a grip on your technique, it's very easy to use.

I only used a little bit because I'm a grown up, dammit! I'm sorry to say that I think I'm too old for this. That's not to say that there won't be other people my age who won't be too old, I just think that vibrant hair colours aren't fro me, but...it's really sticky and it got on my neck and it wouldn't wash off and I should have used gloves like the packet said. But I don't have gloves. If only Lady Gaga had been over for tea to lend me her marigolds. I'd recommend recruiting a friend to help you apply.

As I was applying the stuff I thought of a girl at school who dyed her hair with red food colouring. The poor thing arrived late to class one day when it was pouring rain and more food colouring was on her face and uniform than her hair. This hair makeup didn't budge luckily (in a way) but it was a pretty similar colour. But that's beside the point.

I'm sure that this hair makeup would be really fun for some people to try. I also think it will work a lot better with a hair colour that isn't dull and mousy ( :( ) As long as you're careful not to make a big mess you can go wild, especially since it washes out after two shampoos.  The colour can be as vibrant as you want it to be. It's really sticky and can go quite hard, so brush it carefully to break it up.

Alongside Red-y to Rock, the sample that I was given by Redken to try, the Color Rebel range comes in five more shades; Rebel Without a Coral; Punked Up Pink; Purple Riot; Gilty as Charged; and a limited edition Gold Glitter Spray and they retail at €21. Will you be giving them a try?
