Freaky Fashion: Boiler Suits

We are all for functional fashion. It's not everyday that one can be prancing around in 12 inch armadillo shoes. Not that anyone could actually prance wearing those bad boys. That's why UGG boots became so popular - although we still can't quite work out why people wear them out in the rain. And of course, there's Crocs...

Sometimes, we'll observe a style movement that proves that anything can be fashionable - if you wear it a certain way. Take the humble boiler suit. The car mechanic's uniform is actually pretty damn brilliant when you think about it. You can wear whatever you like under it (or nothing at all...) and, well, that's that. They can also be really cheap, think €15 cheap.

That's the power of fashion - and the fun of it. People will wear whatever they're told to to remain in with the in crowd and obviously, stylists sometimes have a sense of humour!

Cat Deeley is one of those lucky people who could wear a bin bag and look good in it. (Hmm, should we contact Cat's people and see if we can make bin bag chic happen?) Looking at her we realise that her boiler suit is quite divine and we bet she had the most comforable fashion show experience of her life - she was pictured at the Burberry Prorsum SS15 show last year.

How our minds work in such mysterious ways. Olivia Wilde turned up to an event that would make Jenny from the Block green with envy late last year and although on paper this is hideous, we really want a denim suit. And gold platform runners. Argh, so easily led!

Oh God, we can imagine ourselves wearing this on holiday. No, we want to break this ensemble out right now while the sun is shining. Shea Marie is a fashion blogger who obviously knows all about the (dark) art of styling and she's willing us to run out and buy peep-toe wedges on the High Street and our very own boiler suit in er - where does one buy a boiler suit?

Are you swayed? Would you wear one? How would you style it? Who do you think has the best boiler look?
