Five Best Ways to Say Happy Christmas

It's nearing that time of the year when we're reunited with old friends and we look forward to catching up over a warm hot chocolate or glass of red. But keeping in touch with those further afield can be a bit tricky.

So what's the best way to say happy Christmas? Here are our five best ways.

  • Send a card

Haven't got time to write a two-page essay? No problem! Just send a card. It can be as detailed or as impersonal as you like, you can even throw in a nice little photo of how everyone's doing. Because what better way to illustrate your point than a card? Not only that, cards are always a welcome decoration around the home. In fact, Christmas only really begins when the first card lands on your mat and you sit down with a coffee to see who's thinking of you.

And An Post's latest TV ad shows just how important cards can be to a Christmas - have a look:

  • Send them a letter

Letters are personal, hand-written and memorable. Not only that, sitting down to read a nice letter over the Christmas period really is one of the most pleasant experiences we can think of. Somebody actually took the time to put to pen paper for you to let you know. And that means something.

  • Talk to them, face to face

Speaking of faces, why not try it face-to-face? Technology's great and all, but what about actually wishing someone a Happy Christmas in person? You get to see the reaction there and then (or lack thereof, in some cases).

  • Skype / Video-chat them

Thanks to the Internet, the world's a much smaller place and much simpler to reach someone. Just hope that the videochat doesn't freeze when you're pulling a face. And be prepared for seeing up the nostrils of many an older relative as they get to grips with this new fancy technology.

  • Give them a call

When you're calling someone you haven't spoken to in a while, it can always run on quite a bit. What begins as a simple "Hey, long time!" turns into a four-hour phone conversation about where everyone is in their lives and what's changed. Just make sure it isn't a long-distance call to Australia or something.
