Bright Eyes: White Eye Shadow Makes A Cool Return For S/S14

White eye shadow was one of the biggest catwalk trends for  S/S14 and this year it's predicted to make an appearance in a makeup bag near you.

Suddenly this look is everywhere - they are raving about it in fashion magazines and opening a newspaper beauty supplement is like gazing at a white out of cosmetics. Okay, I have yet to see someone rocking it on the street but it is only a matter of time *cue the scary ticking clock*.

It actually only came to my attention when Sharon The Makeup Artist uploaded her tutorial on how to wear it and although I admire her skill and think she is gorgeous regardless, I am still firmly on the fence about this one. I mean, WHITE eyeshadow?!

Sure, the runway models at Tibi looked positively ethereal at New York fashion week but what of us mere mortals?

And if we attempt to up the ante and try to make it look more glamourous, do we run the risk of looking like Kim Kardashian? Love her or hate her, she can usually work any trend. But to me, this is one look that even she can't pull off.

So if you are brave enough to attempt this one at home, here are some products I recommend:

  • NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in ‘Milk’

The infamous pencil can be run along the upper lashline and into the inner corners of your eyes before being smudged out with your finger.

  • Mac Eyeshadow in ‘Gesso’

A pure white matte eye shadow can be used all over the lid for a wash off colour, or layered over the Jumbo Pencil for added intensity.

  •  Catrice Liquid Metal Eyeshadow in ‘Look Me In The Ice’

For a cheaper option, budget brand Catrice have this metallic white offering which is perfect for replicating the trend. And the gold undertone and slight shimmer in this will make it easier to wear.

Just be careful not to go too dark with your tan if you are thinking of giving this a go as you could run the risk of looking like a Japanese ganguro girl. We're aiming for ethereal and iridescent here, not alternative fashionista.
