Victoria Beckham's 'That Extra Half Inch'

victoria beckhamUnless you've had your head down a rabbit hole or been holidaying in Kzhakstan for the past six months you'll probably be aware that Posh is just about to publish another book. Not bad going for someone who famously claimed that she had never read one in her life.

The extra half an inch in the title is all about 'Hair, Heels and Everything in Between'. She's going to be sharing all her best beauty and fashion tips with us mere mortals! I hear that no word in the book will be more than two syllables long and the font wil be a generous 14 point type. Advice will be dispensed on 'dressing for special occasions, everyday wear, accessorising, holiday tips and making the most of your wardrobe' as well as beauty secrets and fashion anecdotes. Victoria's premise for the book is that 'Whether you've got £20 to spend in Top Shop or £2,000 to spend at Gucci, looking good isn't about money, it's about style, and style never goes out of fashion.'

Mrs Beckham, I agree with this pronouncement. I think style is innate and while it can indeed be imitated by the less sartorially lucky, it can't be created by them. And love, you don't have it. I've never, ever, seen you in something you put together cleverly, stylishly and which you accessorised fabulously - you are always head to toe in designer clothes, and that's it - nothing more exciting than that. All your clothes say about you is that you have cash and a good publicist, not style.

Still, if you want to get your mitts on That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything in Between you can pre-order it from Amazon - it's due for publication on October 27th. The cynic in me expects that it will be finding its way into bargain bins all over the country by Christmas.
