World Osteoporosis Day

world osteoporosis day

It's World Osteoporosis Day on the 20th of October. The theme this year is 'Bone Appetit' and the focus is on the importance of heathly eating in the prevention of osteoporosis. A shocking 1 in 5 men, 1 in 3 women (1 in 2 women 65+) and children are affected by this preventable and treatable disease in Ireland. It's especially resonant for us as women because after menopause bone density thins and we become even more susceptible to developing brittle bones. In addition, the worrying trend towards size 0 clothing means that less and less of us are getting the dairy products we need to build and maintain strong bones.

If you're concerned about this issue, you can visit the website of the Irish Osteoporosis Society for more information.
