And the Most Popular Pet Name Irish People Give to their Other Half is...

Most people have a pet name for their partner, be it something along the usual lines of 'honey' or something a bit more out there like 'Schnugglepants McLoverface'.

After a survey across the water in Inkland revealed that the most popular term there was 'darling', the folks at the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show on Today FM decided to conduct a poll and ask the people of Ireland whether they have a pet name for a loved one and what it was.

Now, after such a great display by the Irish football team last night (no, I didn't watch it but my Twitter feed was full of green pride), it can only be described as a disappointment that the rest of the nation let us down in a big way in this survey.

I just wish she'd stop calling me Schnuggy Wuggy in front of the lads. Fintan wished Assumpta would stop calling him Mr Schnuggy Wuggy in front of the lads.

The results revealed that 'babes' was the top of the list, something which reflects incredibly poorly on us all for allowing this to happen. The top five in full is:

1. Babes

2. Princess

3. Puddin'

4. Honeybunny

5. Queen

Queen? I've never even heard of that one. Or maybe that's just more of a reflection on me.

And, lookit, we all should know this - there is only one acceptable use of the word babe. And this is it.

One particular listener, also disappointed with the position of babes in the list, summed it up pretty well: "My sister-in-law calls my brother 'babe' all the time. My nephew is two-and-a-half and in the past few months has started calling his dad 'dad-babe'".

And that you'll agree, is VERY disturbing.

Mind you, my own family call me Pat Sheehan so when it comes to pet names, I'm not sure if I am one to judge.

So., tell us, what does your other half or family call you? Is there anything very embarrassing that you'd like to share with the class? Because we'd just LOVE to know. To the comments!
