Back with a quick update for anyone who's interested.

The 2 herbal concoctions used in the detox were:
Fatigue tacklers (which gently boost metabolism), mainly made up of Radix angelicae sinensus (dang gui), psoralea fruit (bu gu zhi)and Astragalus (huang qi)- to aid digestion.

Sleep easy (to calm the nervous system of the body): main ingredients sour jujube seeds (suan zao ren),ophiopogon japonicus tuber ( Mai Men Dong), Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Dang Gui),Radix Polygalae (Yuan Zhi), Radix Bupleuri (Chai Hu.

Jett - who runs the Qi Rooms Studios - is a a fully qualified Traditiaonal Chinese Medicine practitioner, who works in conjunction with a 3rd generation Chinese herb specialist. While some herbs have recently been banned in the EU, they are fully aware and compliant with EU regulations.

They also advocate moderation in all things which as they've asked me to point out - never killed anyone!

Hey Ros,

Thanks for your concern, but honestly no need to worry - I didn't cut out dairy, just ate less of it, or fibre - I substituted wheaten bread for other types which are good sources of fibre, like rye and spelt (listed in the post). I did stop eating red meat for 10 days but ate plenty of other iron rich foods to compensate, and still ate chicken and fish.

As for seeing a doctor, obviously anyone embarking on something more extreme should absolutely consult a doctor first but this was just a few lifestyle changes and nothing remotely extreme or dangerous. Also, just to clarify: we would never promote slimming pills on the site.

About everything else, we may just have to agree to disagree!

Bridget, good point about the gluten free breads - I have changed that to low gluten which more accurately reflects the guidelines of the programme anyway.

It's important to note that this article lists spelt as 'gluten free', spelt is not gluten free and this detox diet is a wheat free not gluten free diet. Gluten free breads can (and often do) include gluten free wheat starch. so a gluten free bread is not necessarily wheat free and a wheat free bread is not necessarily gluten free. Small point but there you go.

Emma - cutting our meat (iron source) dairy (calcium) and wheat (fibre) is not a healthy way of eating. You did not see a dietitian or a clinical nutritionist or a doctor or any qualified health professional, all of whom would have told you the same. You had a consultation with some sort of 'nutritionist' otherwise known in the medical profession as a quack.
Again, I feel it is totally irresponsible of this site to promote this type of industry.
It's a bit daft that you post lists of ingredients in skincare products in minute detail with heaps of knowledge, but yet take 'herbal tablets' and promote them with no knowledge of the contents.

Ros, no idea why your original comment didn't show, but if you read the post you can see there is nothing dangerous about following this programme - it just advocates a very healthy way of eating. The Chinese herbs are only a small part of the programme but I have asked for more details on exactly what they entail - we were told, but I can't recall - and share the details here.

I made a comment here yesterday and it was moderated and never appeared - I wonder why?
I just pointed out the dangers of trying to change the pH of the body, and posted a link to the death this year of a young healthy Dublin man who followed an alkaline diet. (google it) Massive organ failure followed.
I also posted a link to the story of a 18 yr old Irish woman who took Chinese herbal slimming pills a few months ago and had her whole colon removed 5 days later.
And that maybe it was irresponsible of beaut.ie to promote an alkaline diet and Chinese herbal pills.
But it never appeared. Why?

My new years resolution is to just not eat as much rubbish as I normally do, nothing fancy.

I'm a bit wary of cutting dairy out completely- I'd simply replace full fat milk with Super Milk or the likes because then you get your calcium. Gran is forever telling me there's no point in being the skinniest girl in the room if you have bones made of rice paper. And she's 96 and still going strong so I figure she must be doing something right!

Interesting discussion, and some v informative links.

My view is that a lot of these types of programs can be successful for people because of the accountability factor - we can make plenty of excuses to ourselves, but when we're paying and have a weekly/whenever meeting with others it's a different kind of motivation.

Good luck to everyone with any lifestyle changes they're planning, one of my goals is more broccoli, and only a moderate amount of coffee.
