Zip it! Zippers as hair bands – ALL the cool girls going to be on board with this one?

By | September 7 2012 | 14 Comments

Ah here’s a trend I fell in love with the very milisecond I clapped eyes on it.  Replace the boring Alice band with a zip!

Kerastase created the look for the Erin Featherstone show at New York Fashion week and here’s the guide to copy it.

  • Off you go to Hickeys and buy yourself a nice long zip.
  • Tack your hair with a blast of Bastiste or hairspray so it’s not too slippy.
  • Tie the zipper round your head, knotting it at at the nape of your neck, as you would do with a hair ribbon or tie.
  • Probably advisable to secure the whole shebang with a couple of discreet kirby grips so it doesn’t go flying at an inopportune moment.
  • Kerastase  opened the zips to get a double zip effect – but this could lead to painful hair pulling accidents, so if you’re not sure go with a closed zipper.

  • I don’t think I could pull off wearing a zip on my head

Rather than getting a long zipper and tying it around the head, what about getting a shorter one and some elastic, and sewing the elastic on to the zipper to make a proper headband?

Not one I’ll be wearing though, but I just don’t do tough-girl chic anyway.

Loving this – the poll responses are exactly equally divided between love and hate of this mini trend!

I don’t hate this trend but i won’t be wearing it myself as i KNOW it will get stuck in my hair and pull loads out (even if the zip is closed, i have crazy suicidal hair)

Maybe if someone on the high street comes out with a hair friendly one i’ll give it a try

Last time the zipper headband trend happened maybe two years I got one amazing one in A-Wear, had a flower made from zippers. Love it, this post just reminded me about it, it’s been hidden away at the bottom of my headbands for a while.

I don’t like the zipper-trend for the most part, but this simple straight forward version of it is actually cute… I also like the way it’s styled on the picture, with that boho-chique flowy dress and soft curls :)

    Love it, 100%!

This would never work on me. Love the zip trends though for bracelets. Have seen a few that look cool in mazagines.

I’ll defo be giving this a bash! It looks great in a colour similar to your own colour. Cheap too.

Would it not tear your hair?
