Bringing up Baby and Some Like it Hot. There’s nothing like a black and white film to feel cosy and Christmassy. However, I do despise Elf. I was taken to see it back in the day when it came out and thought it was pretty naff, and I refuse to pretend to like it just because it inexplicably seems to have become a classic.

Oh, and Love Actually. It’s like a horrendous cheesy flick, but it contains BILL NIGHY and is therefore genius.

Gone With the Wind, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard 2, Elf, Bad Santa, ALL the Harry Potters, Calamity Jane, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, E.T., Christmas With the Kranks, Home Alone 2 (NOT THE FIRST ONE), The Holiday, Titanic, Return to Oz, Babe. All have been watched religiously for many years!

One of the DVDs I HAVE to watch at this time of year is ‘The Greatest Store in the World’ – it was a made-for-tv special on the BBC years back with Dervla Kirwin & a dodgy S Club 7 cameo, about a single Mum to two girls who become homeless at Christmas & end up sneaking in to live in a huge department store – we recorded it on video the day we got our Christmas holidays from school, and watched it every Christmas afterwards. A few years ago it was given free as a DVD with one of the papers, I missed it & got it at a stupidly extortionate price on eBay. But I ADORE it and it reminds me of that exact day, pre-millennium madness, when my sister & I walked in the door from school, dumped our bags, and sat down to watch it. Good times!

I’ve never seen It’s a Wonderful Life either!

Mummyputter totally agree. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, when I hear the lines from Gene Wilder Come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination…..christmas as a child comes flooding back to me.
I’m a sucker for a christmas film, any of them, love them.

Atkin – Some Like It Hot is pure genius – one of my favourite comedies of all time – I’ve seen it so many times now I can lip synch along to it!

I just remembered another one, Some Like it Hot. Morning sickness has gotten worse so I am starting my Christmas holidays two days early tomorrow, snuggling up on the couch with the cats and watching it. I can not wait!

Shygirl, I agree with you. I much prefer Tim Burton’s version.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation – best Xmas movie ever. Still laugh at it years later.
And Santa Clause the Movie. The one with Dudley Moore and John Lithgow. When all the broken toys got sent back to Santa, it always made me cry!!

I’ve actually never seen Its a Wonderful Life either. Not a film I grew up with.

What about the Labyrinth? The one with David Bowie. Totally not a Christmas movie but always seems to be on somewhere at Christmas time.

Here in Italy it’s not Christmas if some tv channel doesn’t show Little Lord Fauntleroy. I groan every time I see the previews but end watching it all the same

I love Love Actually. And The Holiday. But none-Christmassy ones are LOTR, Gone with the Wind, the Sound of Music and the Wizard of Oz. They were always on round Christmas so just feels right to me
I also love a bit of Doctor Who at Christmas coz that was when I first got the 1st season box set & started watching it so love that!

All of the above, except Elf – the fact that Will Ferrell gives me the itch probably doesn’t help. Love to see Eamonn Morrissey’s take on the Brother at Christmas – usually turns up then!
