Ah come on, of course page three objectifies women! This campaign is great. Women STILL only hold 21% of senior management positions despite outperforming boys in school and college. We need to make a stand against this portrayal of women as sex objects.
I probably sound about a 100 when I say this but the other day in the gym, I was shocked to see someone watching porn on their screen. Only they weren't, it was MTV.

Doesn't this all come down to:
does media effect society or
society effect media

I think the solution is to put a hunk on page 2 beside her!

I am conflicted on this topic but I have to think that women are treated much worse in some countrys of the world where there is no page 3/ nudity in media and advertising at all.

I hd written out a lengthy post but forgot to type in username and now its gone lol. Far too lazt to retype. But to recap, My issue is not that i agree with women posing for the pleasure of men necessarily, it is people claiming that it is only because it is in a newspaper, a news paper by the way that absolutely noone takes seriously! and alot guys only buy because it is cheaper, and less conspicious to buy than nutz or loaded impliying that they compare the two in the sense of trash. Plus most of them do primarily buy it for the sport. They have the feckin intrnet like, they hardly need to go to the shop when they can google on their phone or computer. They all know its a crap paper and really dont view it as anything reputable.

I see it like this, most people complain up in the bushes about cronism, how awful it is etc etc... but when your friend of a friend joe, or your family friend fred can get you job in somewhere youd like to work, dont tell me the majority of people would decline on principle. They wouldnt. WHY? because most people are hypocrites. Poeple always neglect the gray area of life. So, i get annoyed when people try to say its only because its in the news paper. Right. so lets say the sun come out tomorrow with a press release saying that they are now going to be trading as a magazine with some alterations to the layout and content, would everyone here, including the campaignors drop the issue, either in public and/or in their own mind? no. They wouldnt. because its not about the newpaper o what it contains, its about the fact its there at all in any form. So while i dont particularly care for naked women selling and promoting things i just think you are either going to say ok or you go the whole hog and state what your beliefs are in full. be upfront about it dont hide behind the veil of it being imcompatable with "journalism" , even though we all know what the paper is. A rag.

I also believe the tables would be very much turned if womens sexuality was visual, but its not. I bet you anything if it was you would have advs where this girl has a trail of hunky sweaty men running after her cause her lashes have so much volume!
Also, it would be intresting to see whether gay men objectify other gay men in public because of what they have seen in gay porn or gay magazines.

Also, to pick up on wha the frog said, That guy is just a moron with a twisted logic. I think you would be hard pressed to find any evidence that it was because of page three or porn. page three does not blind me to social etiquate. Thats a fallacy. although i know the frog wasnt actually saying that. Its just a typical example where page three would be hopped off on here as the exact cause of that mans ignornace when the reality is its just not. Hes just a an idiot.

Also just to note about people worrying about the effects of sexuality on children, do you turn off the tv every time the lynx adv comes on? I mean that is doing the same thing. I just think you need to pick a side and sick to IT. dont complain about it being about
page three soley when its clearly not. That is all i am arguing here.

jessabel8, I have no intention to make you change your point of view (and I share parts of it, I don't think page 3 affects children for example), but I mentioned a book earlier on, it's called Living Dolls. It makes good arguments about the nasty trickling down effects page 3 and glamour modelling have on the way women are perceived. You may not be convinced by them, but it's interesting to read.

Up until recently, I thought women complaining about the objectification of women were exaggerating, and that it was really marginal, and (I'm ashamed to say) limited to the 'kind of people who read the Sun'.
That was until the husband of a friend saw it appropriate to make a comment about the attractiveness of my breasts. In a posh restaurant. In front of his wife. Who did not react, as if it were normal. Of course most of my male friends were horrified when I related his comments to them, but the fact remains that this well-educated 30-something man saw fit to reduce me in public to the size of my breasts.
But yes, I know one story does not make a rule nor a sociological story.

Jess- It's that attitude of nothing will change so don't bother do anything that I don't get. Yes there will always be a demand but I don't think that the supply needs to come with your cornflakes. I'm not against topless models, but having it as part of your everyday routine is too much, & as much as these pictures differ greatly from someone pooing or whatever they also are not a woman breastfeeding, or are they educational or informative in anyway. They are there to titilate!

i take no offence i believe we all have a right to an opinion. i was not trying to say breasts or glamour models are the equivalent of shit but addressing the argument that men finding breasts naturally exciting. of course they do if they didnt we wouldnt have particularly interesting sex lives what i mean is that there are many things that we do natutally but we do not feel the need for them to be part of our everday visualisation. that everything has its place. it isnt that page 3 scares children but that it tells them that sexuality is a part of everything we do and that there r no boundaries to when and where

the argument isnt about sexuality its about appropriateness the topless pics in a mainstream newspaper squashed between news items is inappropriate n gives the message that women are sexual objects and that it is appropriate for them to be seen as such no matter where we happen to be. incidentially my argument runs along popular music and advertising which still places women alone in the home cleaning doing the housework and 'going to iceland'

Tina, with all due resect here, noone wants to see anything about people pooing. Are you honestly trying to compare a womans breasts to someone taking a shit? if thats the level of disguist you have for page three girls then i think you have far more issues than any man who looks at it. Also, I wasnt going to bring it up but considering you are actually arguing the fact that chilren are subconsciously scared by page 3, I would actually argue that it would be possibly far more scaring to see either of their parents naked, especially when it is of the opposite sex. That in my mind would be more subconsciously scaring then some random girl on a piece of paper with connotations they have yet to grasp. Persnally I think that would be more damaging in theory than page 3. This is just my opinion and i honestly mean no offence by it.
