I love Smashbox! Their studio skin 15 hour wear foundation is the best foundation I’ve ever used and definitely lasts for 15 hours, I go to the arnotts branch asmy local debenhams was closed and find the girls there fantastic! I was going to a wedding during the summer got my make up done there and I have never had so many compliments! THIS wouldn’t let a story that happened 13 years ago effect my judgement I dont see what that has to do with the products which I find amazing!,

It’s so hard now to find a brand that doesn’t have some sort of shady dealing going on if you dig about a bit. I used to love Smashbox and bought a butt-load of it from QVC back when the kits were ridiculous value (and before I’d ever heard of the PR story). I think the quality has gone down a lot in the last few years and the only thing I used now really is the primer light which is fab. I’ll have a poke about in the new collections but they aren’t as good as they used to me and of course that whole story leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I dunno, to me it’s like not buying the Irish Times because of their ex-sports reporter. I assume those put off by the allegations would stop buying all brands owned by the Lauder brand.

@gracie it’s not the sales consultants fault your eyes got a reaction, what did you want her to do, wash your face for you? I haven’t tried that many of there products but I do like there primers

Love Love Smashbox ….

The last time I was in Arnotts the girl that helped me was very nice , I suffer from redness and wanted to try their primers . She recommended me the “adjust primer” not only does it fills in pores and helps my makeup stays on, but it also reduces the redness for me . I tried many products but this one really works at only €31.50 .. The best part it’s paraffin free .

I have zero interest in Smashbox as a brand – it’s not one that has ever appealed to me regardless of the events mentioned above.

I just think there’s nothing special or unique about their products to warrant such an extortionate price for non-luxury items. Haven’t bought from them and won’t be doing so.

Anyone who wants to know the full story ought to dig a little deeper than the Guardian piece. Lengthier articles paint a very unflattering picture of Dean and Davis Factor and suggest that while they had nothing whatsoever to do with the incident itself, they were less than helpful (some articles even suggest obstructive) in the investigation afterwards. I’ve even read a post on another highly reputable blog by someone who knows the woman involved and only a short time later she was sent samples, etc. and asked to promote the brand!

Beauty eds know make up might be tested on animals, might use materials that damage the environment, and so on, so I imagine for them to shun such a big brand, and one that is generally thought to be good quality and very effective, it must have been a pretty big deal.

Donna, I agree with you in that some of their stuff is a bit too dear. This was IMO killing them in the Indie chemists when you’d see the likes of NYC for €5, Rimmel for €10, Gosh for €12 and Smashbox for €20. They are the sort of product that you need a trained rep or MUA to advise you as they are a bit more specialist than other brands in what they sell.

AFAIK the Smashbox counter at Boots Liffey Valley will be opening this Thursday.
