In fairness, the jokes about 'bits' in Club Orange ads are as old as Club Orange itself. They made fun of men's bits before they did female's bits. True, the ad does feature a lot of boobs, but some of the perfume ads show not exactly sex but enough grinding and heavy breathing that it's unmistakable.

Don't mistake this for being in favour of them. I'm just saying that there's a lot of hypocrisy pointing out one ad and ignoring all the rest because they have a good bit more money backing them.

Rosemary, you seem to be saying if one person finds it offensive then an ad is deamed offensive?! 'My point was, just because you’re not offended doesn’t mean it’s not offensive' I am sure every media campaign can offend someone, that is not to say that all media is offensive. I always find it strange when someone can't just accept that not everyone thinks the same, some people are offended, some aren't doesn't make anybody ignorant or ignorant!

A, you are picking it up wrong. My point was, just because you're not offended doesn't mean it's not offensive - I was saying that if you're simplifying things (that's a general "you" by the way) to the point that, in your mind, not being offended means it's not offensive, then yes, you (again, general) are being determinedly ignorant and coming across as an idiotic woman.

If you're saying that you can't see the correlation between those two oranges, the word "bits" and the sexualising of women's bodies then I'd say, yes, you're probably both of those "offensive" terms.

Rosemary - you're obviously offended and I'm obviously not so we'll agree to differ

I just dont find 2 oranges offensive. Its so childish to portray oranges as boobs but I disagree that womankind is degraded or damaged.....

However, (and I may be picking you up wrong on this) just because someone isnt offended, don't assume they are either an "idiotic woman" or "determinedly ignorant".

I think it's interesting how men keep citing the Abercrombie poster as 'sexist'. If they find it sexist or object to it, the answer is to vote with their feet. Personally I can't stand Abercrombie. Loathe their policies, their clothing, their sizing, their hiring policies, their cheerleader/quarterback aesthetic and their noxiously over-scented interiors. Hence, I don't buy their clothes or endorse their sexist advertising. It's actually quite simple.

I found the Abercrombie ad very interesting because the model is onjectified in the ways that a female model would be, we can't see his eyes and he's in a sexualised pose and totally hairless. Is this saying the standard for male beauty now rivals the standard for female beauty? Also it's totally photoshopped anyway. Haha my bf thought it was for gay pride!

As for the club orange ads, they really infuriated me because they used to just have quirky somewhat funny ads and they've resorted to boobs=sales nonsense, which is just boring. Where's the creativity?!

Yes Rosemary! Well said, you put into words how I think about this subject better than I ever could. I think using this type of advertising is just insulting to everybodys intelligence in general, both men and women and unfortunatly says a lot about our society. I can not stand the done deal advert! D:
