Ever since I watched Louis Theroux interview him 12 years ago. I’ve known there was something not quite right with jimmy Saville. And it stayed with me ever since. it was obvious watching this that Savile was hiding something sinister about his sexuality. When asked about his wrestling, he said “yup feared in every girls school in the country”. Questioned about relationships he revealed he had never been in one and had no interest In having a partner. Then he had this bizarre term for negative emotion, “brain damage” I wonder if doing so much charity work was his way of avoiding his brain damage? Then there were his creepy friends who he went on cruises with. I cannot believe after this was aired, suspicions were not aroused and no action was taken to investigate Savile. The BBC knew something was up but waited until after his death to investigate him and what did they do? They pulled the newsnight piece so it could have a tribute show with much higher ratings. This is utterly unforgivable, it’s a disgrace and heads must roll.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with discussing something topical or something as serious and important as child abuse, as long as the post is respectfully written, which I find it always is on beaut.ie. As others have said, I started reading this a couple of years ago and have loved checking it every day- both the beauty related posts and the more serious topics- it's important to know what's going on in the world and I enjoy reading differing opinions on these matters. Please keep it up! :-)

I just thought I'd have a little input - well I like the variety.

It is to appeal to a wider audience and not to one particular one. It is a great place to read discussions on topics in todays society and what goes on in the news etc.

Some people may not have someone to talk to about this. The beauty of beaut.ie is that if there's a topic up for discussion you have a choice to read it and participate or not.

Like conversations in everyday life, if you don't want to talk about it don't comment on it. If you don't want to read something for your own reasons well I'm sure there are plenty of posts on the site for you to have a little read on!

For some reasons I like the way Beaut.ie posts the more interesting tpoics...I love the make up and beauty and the perving on men.... but I also love the conversations the "other posts" stir up on the site.

keep it up girls!!

For what it's worth, I love that this blog isn't just about beauty matters.

It's a forum where matters that are relevant and important to Irish women are discussed in an articulate, thoughtful, intelligent, often hilarious, always insightful manner.

I never have to wade through reams of sexist abuse, trolls, or just the general cattiness that has ruined so many other forums and makes them no-go places.

The people on this site - both the contributors and commentators, are a lovely, intelligent, funny bunch who show great respect to each other and conduct themselves in a dignified manner. It's why Beaut.ie is one of my favourite sites on the entire internet.

Slightly bothered by the "Not a bit surprised. There was always something deeply creepy about him" option. Is it our inner "I told you so!" coming out. But the amount of people who expected it or, worse, had some idea that this was going on makes a sad story even worse :/

Well I'm relatively new to this site (about a year or so) but I love the mix of topics. I live in Oz (and haven't lived in Ireland for years) and the real Irish-ism that comes through in the posts and the replies gives me a tinge of homesickness but also makes me feel like I'm still Irish, makes me laugh at the phrases I'd forgotten and keeps me up to date with what's going on, what Irish women are thinking, what's new in the market etc etc. As many others have said, if you think you won't like what's in a post, don't click on it. I click on every single one = )

Another big fan of the site here, and the beauty posts are my favourite; as other commenters have said I read other sites for non-beauty related news, and I've no problem with more varied posts on beaut, but honestly, I don't see the merit of this one, sorry to be a downer!

Never thought of it as just a beauty blog (although the name should have given the game away!). So change away and I'll stick with you all.

I have to admit I am not a bag fan of some of the new Writers on the site but I just don't read the posts I know won't interest me. I do miss reading Kirstie's posts. However While I do think your readers should be allowed to voice their Opinion on your site I don't agree with readers posting negative comments under different names just to be nasty. It's simple if you don't like it don't read it. What I will say is that for someone who says they won't rise to the bait, Aisling you have not stopped mentioning these comments on line all evening. It seems you are liking the fact that the comments have caused controversy and possibly brought more readers to the site. Why not just not respond to the comment and why keep advertising the situation on social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter.
