POLL: Do you sleep naked?

By Aisling | April 21 2012 | 42 Comments

When Richard Maderly admitted last night that not only did he sleep naked but Judy did too – there were many chortles

Why?  Because even though they’re married and can obviously have sex whenever they like actually admitting that you sleep naked is another thing entirely.  It implies that you’re ready to go at a moments notice, that nothing stands between you and the oul fornication and that you’re AT IT all the time.

Which to be honest is a little unsettling when applied to Richard and Judy.

I also don’t believe you can get a good nights sleep in any kind of “sexy” night time wear.  The nylon is sweaty, straps dig in and it’s all usually so uncomfortable.  Also sleeping naked is out for me because of this reason: what if there were a fire?

But what about you?  Down with the whole sleepin nekkid thing or not – take the poll!

  • I do sometimes, like last night when the fire-alarm went off in my apartment building… Think I might wear pjs tonight!

You see! That’s my nightmare. I don’t want to end up out on the road in the nip shivering in front of the neighbours!

  • Richard Maderly is a ride. And yeah, can’t stand pyjamas.

  • At home I’m generally a fleecy pjs socks etc girl but I live in an old house & my room gets v cold in the winter. Then again any time I’ve had an, eerm, ‘bedfellow’ I’ve probably mainly slept in the nude or in underwear – much as I hate beeing seen naked I think I look even worse in pjs or whatever. An as you say it’s not comfy to sleep in sexy nightwear. But if I ever settle down with a bloke I’ll have to get past that cos I couldn’t be without me pjs,esp in the winter.

Here in Malaysia I’m sleeping wrapped in a cotton sarong cos it’s roastin but I can’t sleep naked in a strange bed, esp now that I consider what you said about a fire drill. Incidentally, I cannot sleep without a cover over me, it just doesn’t feel right. No matter how hot it is need to be covered by a sheet or blanket.

Also, fair play to Richard & Judy! :D

  • Well if I’m feeling chilly I’ll wear long bottoms and a tee to bed, but mainly just a Tee and undies!

  • In the winter I wear pjs, but in the summer I’m in the nip.

This makes me think of the scene in Knocked Up, where they end up in the street after an earthquake. I think the fine form of Jason Segel is standing around naked.

  • I’m a nacked girl myself. The oul dressing gown is on the back of the door to grab in a hurry though. Hubby kills me if I wear a knickers, he loves me in the oul nip!!! I like Richard and Judy, well Richard. I only wear Chanel No. 5!!!

  • I do love my tartan jim-jam bottoms for going around the house when I get up in the morning or late at night….

  • Think I’ll leave an emergency nightie by the bed from now on, trying to struggle into the only clothes near – skinny jeans, at 1.30 am was not fun!

  • oh god I couldn’t sleep without my pj’s or mostly just wear a t-shirt and knickers. But I keep thinking the one time I do try to sleep in the nip there would be a fire- murphys law. Or even a burgaler robbing the house! mind you the thought of me running down the stairs in the nip with a hurley swinging mad is probably the most effective alarm you can get!

  • I sleep naked and have for years (since I was a teen) I do have PJ’s though for arsing around the house in and for when I come home from the gym and have a shower and it’s half nine and I am not getting dressed for an hour before bed. They are also used when I am sick and “real clothes” are just too much to handle!! I sleep in knickers when I am (ahem) “out of commission”.

  • Given that I live in uni halls and 3am evacuations are practically a weekly occurrence, I sleep pretty much fully clothed with many layers within reach and boots by the door.

  • The one night that i did sleep in the nip, the delivery man from an post rang the next morning, had to grab the nearest towel and pretend to be just out of the shower! Never again….

  • Love my pjs in winter tho a little nightie in summer. Love the freedom of being naked in bed but with 10 and 11 year old boys who frequently come over in the mornings and wake us, don’t really feel free to do it these days. As it is, they usually balk at at my husband for doing it!

  • No, leggings and a t shirt for me. I hate that feeling of bare thighs slightly stuck together and arms stuck to sides, iykwim. Just that slight skin adherence annoys me.

  • I always wear comfy T-shirts and sweatpants. I’m too afraid there will be some disaster during the night and I’ll have to leave the apartment.

Also, the cats sleep with us, and I don’t like sharp claws on bare skin.

  • Like Blondie, even if it’s boiling I need something to pull around me, and would still sleep in a vest top. But mostly sleep in just a t-shirt, or in winter a long-sleeve t-shirt. It’s good to let your fanny breath, otherwise it incubates bacteria and there you go, a dose of thrush.

  • Oh I’d have to wear something in bed, wouldn’t feel comfortable otherwise. It would be like sleeping with no duvet!

  • I live in student accommodation so I dont feel safe sleeping naked for fear of a fire alarm!! Saying that, when the boyfriend stays over we usually sleep naked together…although I remember one time the fire alarm went off and the two of us were falling around the room looking for clothes!! :D

  • I couldn’t sleep in the nip even if I wanted to. My brother has to wake me everyday because I’m such a heavy sleeper and when I’m home my Dad has to wake me….

  • i wouldnt feel comfy in the nip, id be afraid himself would roll over and squash one of my lady parts lol

  • I just wear a vest top, no bottoms. I live with my boyfriend, and he’s like a furnace under the covers, I try and wear as little as possible. I always have my dressing gown handy in case I need to answer the door or something. Like others have said though, I do always need some duvet or blanket of some sort of cover me. It feels wrong not wrapping my arm up in the blanket and snuggling down.

  • I sleep naked. Im spending a night in hospital soon and was told to bring a nightdress and not pjs! I didn’t think you could still buy nighties, of the type one might wear sitting up in a hospital bed.

  • Theresa – my bf is the same, “the oven” we call him. Even in the depths of winter there he is roasting away in the nip. If I wore PJ’s in the bed with him (which I did once and ONLY once!) I would be a total sweaty betty by the morning. Even in the nip I am. My mammy would be a great advocate of the “letting your fanny breathe” always used to be on at me as a kid as I used to insist on wearing knickers and PJ bottoms. It’s funny to see someone else having written it down!

  • Laughing my head off at “out of commission” Babs! I’m exactly the same as you with the poorly PJs and just wearing knick knacks that one week a month. I just can’t sleep if I’m wearing anything. Even if I’m freezing I just can’t do it, it’s like my body says ‘you’re wearing clothes, that means it’s not sleep time’.

Invest in a mahoosive dressing gown, ladies. Then if the fire alarm goes off and you’re in the nip you can just lash it on and voila! Also fluffy and warm for standing about at 3am.

  • I used to sleep nood. I loved it. I miss it soo much.

But two small children who waken often during the middle of the night have stopped that. T Hat and moving here to what is practically the Arctic (compared to South Africa). So its comfy granny-pants and a oversized tshirt at the moment.

  • Always sleep naked, as does my husband. We’re both human radiators so sleep with the bedroom window open too al year round. He never uses the duvet, I only use it during the winter. I have PJs that I lounge around the house in, when I go to bed I leave them beside the bed in case I need to throw them on. Only time I wear anything in bed is when in hospital or if I’m really sick and cold. I don’t know how people wear anything in bed, I feel so restricted and I always ended up with night time wedgies from tossing and turning!

  • Usually it’s just knickers, except when we have the SD or other people staying over, then its a nightie, just in case there is a-getting-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night-emergency.

  • Always in the nip! Before I lived with himself I was the same, at most a piar of pants at certain times of the month. Love the feeling of being naked in bed. Really missed it when travelling. Luckilt my friend was the same so when we shared a room it was knickers only. Didn’t bother either of us.
Have my pjs for wearing around after my shower and if im lazing around in the morning.
I keep a dressing gown at end of the bed in case I have to leave room quickly, but will generally run to loo in nip, shivering!
Himself throws the dressing gown on if we get any late night visitors. We live in an apartment block so anyone unexpectedly banging on the door is uninvited. One drunk guy in particular kept ringing the bell. The sight of himself in my thigh length pink fluffy dressing gown looking murderous stopped him fairly quickly!

  • Can’t sleep naked, it gets too hot and sweaty. Hate my boobs sticking together or my arm sticking down my side. Very uncomfortable. I sleep in oversized cotton t-shirts and knickers. Cotton keeps you nice and cool and comfortable and sweat free. Keep a pair of PJ bottoms beside the bed in case of a middle of the night fire/emergency.

  • Absolutly can not bear pjs, have drawers full of them and I never wear them. Wish people will stop buying them as xmas presents for me!

  • I will tolerate pjs if it’s absolutely arctic, but really don’t like the feeling of them in bed. The most i’ll wear is knickers; i’ve been sleeping this way for years. I keep my dressing gown close at hand for going to the toilet in the night etc. i do own a good few pjs for slumming around in, like other girls said, after shower/before bed, sick days or days when i can’t be bothered getting into real clothes. It does become problematic though, when from sheer force of habit you can’t remember to bring pjs when you go away or stay in someone else’s house! :)

  • I sleep in the nip…and so does himself…although i do reacall a night a few years ago when there were people TRYING to break into our house…i woke…then woke him..and his biggest prob was tryig to get dressed without distrubing the intruders!!!..then i tried ringing 999 under the duvet…i was whispering into the phone and they were asking me to speak up!!!!…funny now that i think back, petrifing at the time!

  • I can’t sleep in the nip anymore, the boobies were just bothering me too much. When i try to turn over in the bed it takes ages because i have a back problem and having the girls flopping all over the shop just made it worse. I’ve accidentally lain on top of one boob, that is not fun. And God forbid i’d have to get up to use the loo or whatever i’d have to hold them.
I made myself a silk nightie (makes it much easier to move in the bed, less friction – Bonus: breathability) but unfortunately I am not skilled enough to make a nice one that gently holds the bosoms in check. I had to compromise with one of those “Control vests” from Lidl. Not sexy at all!

  • Used to always sleep naked, BUT not now I have a mini person running around the house, so nighties and pj’s have been bought! Slept naked even when in student accommodation – kept knickers & pj’s laid out v near in case of fire alarms. Had the getting dressed down to seconds!

  • I get sweaty during the night so I wear shorts and a t-shirt as it saves me changing my sheets every two days!!

Praxis you can get large t-shirt things in Penneys I think – I got them for my friend before when she was in hospital and she had a stomach operation. Not the most fashionable but you wouldn’t want to risk the straps falling down on your flimsy sexy little number!

  • My BF sleeps naked & we stayed in a hotel recently, he ended up in the corridor naked, thinking he was going in to the toilet, banging the door i heard nothing. He luckly seen the linen press earlier that day just a few doors away from us, had to get a sheet wrap it around him go down to reception and ask the porter to let him back in, i woke with this strange man at the door and the BF standing there in a sheet, done some laughin the next morning. The Shame!!!!

  • I used to before I’d kids so now I wear little cotton boxer and vest sets from M&S. Love them, they’re so comfy. If it’s cold I’d throw on a long sleeve thermal type top and if I’m fake tanning I put on a fleecy onesy (shame) to bake the tan and protect the sheets and hubby from getting blotchy.
