izo – same here, think it’s one of the reasons I find jeans more flattering than dresses/skirts etc, which are kind of inclined to make me look shapeless unless they’re sprayed on.

When I asked in River Island if they had a pair of jeans in a shorter leg, I was told to roll them up at the bottom! Infuriating!

I like being petite, I don’t necessarily want to look taller. My problem is, as you mentioned, things are usually cut for taller women. Straps are too long, nipped-in waists on tops are usually closer to my hips and jeans start to flare too high up my leg.
Proper flares and work slacks (ugh!) swamp me.
The result is I look shapeless unless I just wear really tight clothes, but I’d prefer well-cut clothes that fit without clinging!

I don’t just get asked for ID in pubs, I get child fare on buses without asking for it if I’m not wearing make up!

I am also 4″11… I found Tally Weijl jeans brilliant for my size 6 waist but mega long, so I just turn them up on the inside. I am way too lazy to be paying for alterations regularly.

Penneys have started doing size 6 now and the length isn’t so bad – it is manageable without having to turn up, just rough them up little bit…

It is harder too to find dresses that have the right waist/leg proportion. Coats too

Thank you, this is brilliant! I love wearing jeans, as you say they’re easy to dress up and down but at ‘nearly’ 5ft with 26.5″ legs I do struggle to find jeans that suit.

I wear a lot of Topshop petite range jeans – I’m currently living in Topshop Petite MOTO Leigh Jeans. Never thought I could pull off skinny jeans until someone persuaded me to try them last spring, now I love them.

I totally agree with just getting jeans taken up if they fit everywhere else. But in reality I might happen to have a pair sitting in a drawer well over a year waiting to be brought to a tailors!

I’m another one who can’t wear a high waist either. Maybe its a myth!

I second American Eagles jeans – I’m 4’11 and wearing a pair right now!

I especially hate most Gap jeans which either stop 2 sizes above mine, or offer Regular Length for size 0 and Short Length for sizes above that. I should note I may be 4’11 but trust me, I don’t look like I’m 12 either.

Love this. Especially the whole de-bunking “high waist for short people is only option”. I got this quoted at me quite a bit. I’m 5″1 & proud but I can’t wear high waist – not comfy!
I do love a flare though but find they work grand on me.
I have a vast collection of jeans & happy to see I followed some of the advice here without realising!
Oh & wholeheartedly recommned Dorothy Perkins jeans. And if you’re in the US at any point – American Eagles short is a perfect length too & they ship to Ireland too!
