Parcel Motel: shop online and get free UK shipping – to Ireland. Plus stop annoying your boss into the bargain!

By Aisling | November 26 2012 | 44 Comments

When I heard about Parcel Motel I knew instantly that it was something that would interest lots and lots of you.

Why?  Well I know we all do a lot of online shopping at and one of the frustrating elements of this shopping is the shipping charge to Ireland.  FREE UK DELIVERY! a site will scream.  And then when you click on the shipping charge to Ireland it turns out that your online bargain is a lot less of a bargain than before.  Or in fact not even a bargain at all.  I was asked to pay €29.90 for something recently so it was ho hum time as I wondered what to do?  I cancelled my order in the end.

Which is where Parcel Motel comes in.  It’s a simple but really clever idea: use their Belfast address when you order and then they’ll speed your purchases down to us in the Republic. It only costs €3.50 which in my book makes it really Beaut.ienomical.

But that’s not the only good thing about Parcel Motel.  You can use their service to get parcels from anywhere delivered to one of their secure lockers and pick it up whenever suits you.  For instance if your boss is not looking happy about yet another delivery from ASOS landing in the mail room at work, or if you keep missing home deliveries while you’re out.

Watch this video clip to see how it all works.

Corny, US Drive-in, there’s a whole Eddie Rockets vibe about Parcel Motel which is hilarious.

At the moment they have a special promotion on – get your first two deliveries completely free - which is a brilliant chance to try the whole service out and see what you think!

Well what do you reckon?  Is this something you like the sound of and will you sign up if you do a lot of shopping online?  Or have you tried it out already?

Looks great, and I will use them if the need arises. Has anyone used ?

This is brilliant if you live in Dublin or anywhere outside of Munster, but according to their site they have no Parcel Motels in Munster so we would have to pay €10.50 on top of the €3.50. So brilliant if you live in Dublin or somewhere there’s a Motel location, not so good if you don’t. :(

  • Freckles says:

Oh wait no that’s for extra weight. But still it wouldn’t really work for us Corkonians seemingly unless I’m being really dim…

I love Parcel motel, I use it a few times a month!

  • Joanna says:

Brilliant Idea – especially for those sites that will only post toys or electronic stuff to addresses in the UK! Hope it goes well for them!

  • atkin says:

No, none in Cork Freckles. Mental!

  • Amelie says:

That’s a fantastic idea re the UK delivery! Will defo be trying :D

  • Linda says:

I just registered for this last week – and I’ve ordered stuff from the U.K. – great idea!

  • Trillian says:

I read about this a while back when it was Dublin/Kildare only. I just clicked on the locations and realised there is a depot spot about a 10 minute walk, 2 min drive from my house! Will keep it in mind for Christmas presents.

It’s a very clever idea, I’m not sure how they make money on it though?

  • LoCo says:

This sounds like a great idea. They is also one 10 mins drive from my house.
Does this mean I could buy a kindle on the UK amazon??? because I could use the NI/UK address???

  • Buttons says:

I have one of these locker things right across the road from my house, and I was wondering what it was all about! Thanks for enlightening me.

It really irks me when I buy stuff on Amazon only to be told that I can’t have it because they won’t delivery it to poor oul Ireland for any amount of money…problem solved! Will defo use this service.

This is great for all the sex toys you don’t want the postman delivering to your neighbour or someone airhead at work accidentally opening.

Seriously, we had this lady at work opening and distributing mail who opened everything, even things that did not have the company name on it. Luckily, no sex toys.

Aisling, forgive me if I am wrong – but ordering via the Northern Ireland parcel motel address corresponds to 2 “stays” i.e. once in NI and once in the motel down here. So it would be €7? No?

  • EvieM says:

Cheers Aisling, I’ve just signed up. I tried to order a pillow online for the tiddler the other day…the pillow cost £17 and they wanted £11.50 to post it…feck that says I. Nice one, I’ll be getting it delivered for free now =D

  • Evelyn says:

Thats very nice for most other people but the only one in the whole of connaught is in roscommon?! I just feel like you almost always have to live in dublin(or even leinster) to get these deals…arrghh its so frustrating

  • Louise says:

    None in Galway! Boo!

Great Idea though! Hopefully they will get one in galway soon!

  • joanne says:

A good idea but no use to most of the country at the moment. With the price of petrol/diesel you’d need to be living close to one to get the benefit from it

  • Oh that’s brilliant, and they even have a few locations here in Limerick!! Will definitely think about it

  • candi says:

It definitely counts as 2 stays to use the northern mailbox – so you will be charged twice. Just beware of that!
