No Sex please: it’s skincare night. NarsSkin possibly better than orgasm? Review, pics, Euro prices

By Aisling | August 15 2012 | 21 Comments

Ok, don’t tell Himself I said this.  But as soon as I clapped eyes on the new range of skincare by Nars, and in particular the mask that you can leave on in a thick moisturising face blankie all night, I knew.

That I would be sleeping a serene sleep all night, unsullied by any thrashing around or shennanigans.  No I would be going to bed in a saintly fashion with my Kindle, a cleansed face and a thick layer of Aqua Gel Luminous Mask adorning my visage.

With their reputation as cosmetic kings NarsSkin had to be bloody good.  LOTS of fancy pants Shiseido technology went into the making of this range – there were tons of explanations about prisms and Edison (seriously!) but you and I really only want to know one thing.

Is the range a good one?  And you possibly you want to know another thing – is it worth spending your moola on?

Yes my friends it’s gorgeous.  Above is a shot of two of the products I was particularly taken with, together with a couple of eyeshadow palettes from the Autumn makeup collection. ( Read all about the new A/W collection here, we previewed it a while back.)

Several products make up the range and we really liked the Optimal Brightening Concentrate (€68) which can be worn alone or under makeup.  Beautiful texture and smell – this will prime your skin and create a perfect landing station for your foundation of choice.  Total Replenishing Eye Cream (€52) and Luminious Moisture Cream (€59) (check out the Aqua gel luminous oil-free moisturiser if that suits your skin better (€55)) all have suberb hydrating and light reflecting properties. Cleanser, toner and exfoliator complete the range.

But it was the Aqua Gel Luminous Mask (€37) that inspired us to go into raptures.  The texture! The smell! The sudden youthfullness of hands! It’s really hydrating and will give you a huge moisture boost.  Remember – don’t rub it in.  Apply a thickish layer and let it sit on the skin for as long as possible before removing.

So you see, it would be a WASTE to rub it off on some stubbly fella.  Go to bed in your most unappealing jammies and worry not – he won’t fancy you anyway when he sees the layer of goo.  At €37 the price point is good too.

Truly gorgeous skincare.  Totally luxe – reminding me in so many ways of Prescriptives (sniffle and RIP) and of course Shiseido.  If you’re in the market for spending on skincare give this a whirl.

  • I just want to smell them – ALL – no, that’s a lie, I want to smell them and feel them… I want to smell them and feel them and use them.

Ok, I want them. Curse you, Aisling!

  • Really lovely – you have to try the mask! Would be perfect for hangover skin too

  • Sundaygirl – the A/W makeup collection is available in August and the skincare is being rolled out at the same time. Not sure of the exact date though, will try to find out!

The mask sounds right up my street – sounds a little like this amazing Anne Semonin gel mask you could year a few years back (sadly it was discontinued) – slather it on and leave it for a few hours and your skin looked amazing after – really hydrated. This NARS one could be my ideal replacement – yay!

  • Love the title of this post Aisling! And tis lovely stuff xo

Nars did skincare long ago, made by Shiseido for them. I remember buying from SpaceNK in Belfast. The Nars make-up artist was over and he recommended it to me. It was a rich moisture mask I bought.

did Nars not have this range a number of years ago (the products might have been different) I remember getting a cream (maybe in america) that was like a water/gel that made my skin feel amazing and it was made in conjunction with shisedo

  • Yes – this is their Shiseido range

  • jenlala says:

Ooooh luvly jublee Aisling – this mask is hurtling straight to the top of my (currently hugenormous and growing) wish list! Just a quick question though, in your sage opinion, if I was to be investing in a nice masque would you recommend the NARS or the Dermalogica Orange Vitamin Masque?

  • Jenlala – ooooh that question is hurting… I am torn

  • jenlala says:

My apolgies Aisling – I would go and ask the beauty “Sophie’s choice” of a question hee hee! Only one solution I can see really …. will just get ‘em both – my excuse is “well if Beaut.ie couldn’t decide then, well, it would be crazy to try and pick ‘tween them :-)

Thanks ladies – always consult you before a purchase (although purchases have been more than usual on account of this logic) Still keep up the good work – im a long time lurker/reader but am going to make a considered effort to be more posty ;-)

I got some earlier version of the leave on aqua gel mask last year. Its 85 percent water said the nars makeup artist.
Its nice to leave on during the day in winter when all that central heating is on……just put makeup on top.
Its pretty good on my sensitive red dry cheeks!! And skin feels lovely if left on overnight….

Same as jenlala- this has jumped right to the top of my want list.Oh that mask, that mask you will be mine..even the packaging looks beautiful. Seems very reasonably priced for such a fab product- i was contemplating getting the sisley rose mask till now which is 100 euro.
Jenlala- i use the dermalogica one,it is very good, lasts an age too, when you spread the cost of it over a year shur its only pittens eh?!

  • Jenlala says:

Pittens is right Laura – sure what else would be spending the hard earned sheckels on? ;-)

I too was lusting after the Rose Mask from the Sislers and ‘nearly’ bought it several times but 100 eurobucks does seem a lil mucho – glad I didn’t now as will now purchase the Dermalogica and NARS Masks for less than 100e I nearly spent relatively guilt free – good maths eh … happy days ;-)

  • Eimear says:

Oh wow. I need that mask in my life! For once I’m glad there’s no stubbly fella in my bed!
