wondering if you knew, does the artistic colour gloss have actual metal flake in some or is it something else? i have been using one called princess. trying to find any info on this as i have an MRI in 2 days and would hate to take all the polish off after i have just done it. thanks so much!! and greetings from Canada!

Miss Educator – I was actually talking with a therapist over the weekend about this with my mam. Apparently Shellac done on a continuous basis (ie put on, take off, put on again & repeat forever) can damage the nail so they recommend giving a little time between applications. My mam has flaky nails that continuously break & they recommended to her that she do a treatment for a month (can’t remember exact one but Nails Inc do a version I used) before considering getting a Shellac as it might not hold properly on damaged nails.

Is there annnnnny way of getting a definitive answer about whether shellac ACTUALLY damages nails I wonder???/ My nails are flaky and non growing so I guess they cant get any worse in some ways…..But still???

LOVE this post! As a former nail bitter I am now a firm addict of shellac its the only thing that keeps me from chewing off my poor nails!! I have found the most amazing girl who works from her house in dun laoghaire who does shellac WITH NAIL art!!! proper nail art! shes on facebook emamas powder room and its only 20 for shellac with nail art!! and 12 for file and nail art!

This is a brilliant rundown Marian. I’ve had ‘perfect match’ done at Carter Beauty and was delighted with the result.

For weak nails, CherrySue recommended OPI nail envy and it has changed my life.. No exaggeration!!

Oh what a great post – it’s given me way too many options to add to my must do list. I know pretty nails pretty face in Stillorgan and it’s a little gem of a place with a very loyal clientele and very competitive pricing. I will have to go and book a Gelish and I hope you post photos of the nail art …

Shona, I had a ‘Millions and Trillions’ tutorial on here a couple of months back, you can search it through the search bar – it’s exactly the same as the Caviar manicure at about a tenth of the price.

I’ve done velvet nails too – though called them flock nails (as that’s what they are) if you fancied a look.

I do love Ciate polishes, they’re quality is fantastic but for their on trend nail art I always opt for DIY, much more purse friendly.

great post marian, I like how you tried a few different ones!I have now tried CND shellac and Jessica Geleration- toes are amaxing on both, I preferred cnd shellac on fingers to Geleration- but only beacause my nails were longer to begin with when getting CND.

I must try the Dún laoghaire place when next in Dublin- any otehr budget friendly offerings? 55 euro is quite expensive in Mink(although I have gotten a pedicure there before that was amazing!)
