Oh gosh Im in stitches at that cat story....

I've never had a disaster...just one slightly leaky bottle of lovely lovely kerastase shampoo- it was the bottles fault. I was so sad.

Since then I double bag ALL liquids in double seal zipper locker bags!! I wouldn't zipperlock the cat though.;.....

I love zipper locker bags soooooooo much- I'd beg people to send me them, as well as Barry's tea bags when I was travelling for 3 years.

Crumbs but some of these are fair disasterous .. I've had luggage be delayed the odd time alright. going to & returning from south africa with the irish surf team, ALL our bags failed to reach Durban with us, but showed up a few hours later (we'd had a very tight transfer in Jo-burg), similar enough on the return, the bags arrived the day after us. also when I went to NZ & was stopping in Bangkok overnight my bag didn't arrive in Bangkok so I had to go buy toiletries & trust my bag would be on the outbound flight the next day .. thankfully it was. Also trip to paris via heathrow, my bag didn't appear in CDG, over 24 hours before it appeared at my hotel & then it was someone else's bag !! cue the delivery guy having to backtrack & figure out who he'd given my bag to. As a result of that particular occurance I never use black wheeled bags anymore, they're far too common.
I've had the odd bag with lots of stuff wet inside after it'd obviously been left out in the rain for too long, I also had a benetton hard plastic bag get the lock broken so I couldn't open the bag ! thankfully it was on the return home so I had the appropriate tools to get it open, but the bag had to be retired after that. I also had a padlock broken on a bag when going to france, had to head to a local hypermarket to get a cutters that could snip the zip-pull to get the padlock off. For some reason when locks on my bags get broken they seem to be broken so they're un-openable !

Years ago I was on my way back to the UK after a trip home and decided to bring back a 2L bottle of Club Orange with me along with the obligatory Tayto. I stupidly packed it into my hold luggage instead of my carry-on bag and of course cabin pressure worked its magic and the bottle exploded all over my clothes.

I don't know if I was more disappointed about the sticky, wet clothes or the fact that I had to wait til my next trip home again for some more Club Orange.....

I have always locked my suitcase, it's more to keep it from opening in transit as I have seen it happen before with them being handled oh so delicately LOL. I never had a problem before, only that one time. I also found it weird that they took off my identity tag and all the things like ribbon, etc so I could identify my suitcase when it comes out (it went around the carousel three or four times before I thought it could be mine) I just found it bizarre that there was no way to know if it was security or someone thinking they could rob some valuables.

There is no point in locking suitcases, you'll only end up with a broken lock or suitcase when it gets opened. Maybe they only open the locked ones, out of spite?

This was entirely my mistake - I packed a carton of barley coffee powder (a request from a pregnant friend who could not drink coffee) in my checked luggage but did not realise that the packaging was so soft that it broke during the handling... I managed to save the coffee and washed the clothes, but I'm still left with a coffee-smelling suitcase! Any tips on how to clean it?? Should I put it in the shower??

I've lost luggage tags off mine before - everytime I put them on actually. Given up on them now & just use the card thing that's on the back of the case now.
Luckily haven't had any major breakages etc. Did have my lock broken open a couple of times by the security in the USA & a lovely note left inside saying how they'd checked my bag. Never minded though as they repacked it better than I had! Oh & one time flying home from UK, only the oversized luggage was put on the plane so no bags. Was grand coz on way home but glad it hadn't happened on way over as had been going to my bro's wedding & was bridesmaid!
Is it mean that I'm laughing at some of these?! Just that the images in my head from the stories are so funny!

When I got my bag back after a two week holiday in Zakynthos 3 years ago the lock had been cut and all my identity tags ripped off. I went through the bag and nothing seemed to be taken (I didn't really have any valuables) but when I went to our airline to complain I was simply told if security had taken anything from my bag there would be a note left. How the hell was I supposed to know whether my bag had genuinely been searched for whatever reason or that it had been broken into??? My complaint was not entertained at all I was not a happy bunny!!

Went on holiday to Germany one year and the airline had managed to mix up our booking so we had to wait on a later plane. In the meantime they said they'd take our luggage and have it ready to be put on the flight. Thought nothing of it until we were waiting on our bags in Germany. The bags had a head start but still managed to arrive 3 days late!

My friend (really - not me :), being the Irish pasty yoke she is decided to bring along some fake tan with her on holidays once, to keep herself glowy. Didn't it only burst all over her underwear and seeped into the rest of her clothes...the laugh we had opening the bag. It took us about 20 minutes to calm down. If I could accurately describe the condition of her underwear it wouldn't do it justice
