Toxoplasmosis is a parasite, not a virus. There is no vaccine for it. It is carried by most cats, and by sheep, and about 80% of people have had it without having any symptoms. If you were to come in contact with toxoplasmosis while you were pregnant FOR THE FIRST TIME in your life, you would be at serious risk of miscarriage or of having a baby with severe brain damage or blindness. If you have cats, you are virtually certain to have had toxo already. To be extra careful, avoid litter trays and gardening without gloves. Do not eat homegrown veggies if cats could kak in your veggie beds. Do not help with lambing ewes.

I don’t understand why people do not simply seek genuine reliable facts in this information age instead of swapping rumours.

I suffered from it on both my pregnancies and as a result will never go for child no 3- I just couldn’t do it again. I was sick from week 5 right til the very end, on drips, unable to eat/drink, lost a stone in weight in first 12 weeks, constant head aches, mouth ulcers because I was so run down, signed off work for most of pregnancies due to illness been so bad. It was impossible to enjoy my pregnancies vomited at side of m50, over a wedding dress in debanhams, in shopping centre toilets all over Dublin, into my bosses plant!!! In milk aisle in local Tesco, it was just horrific

It is like a maternity forum… I’m 21 weeks! Got off very lightly with regards illness – only puked 3 times but the tiredness lately is crushing…. Arrived into work today to chorus’s of OH MY GOD – YOU LOOK EXHAUSTED! Cheers m’dears. Nothing like a boost like that at 8.30 in the AM..

Atkin I was like you at seven weeks.it does start to pass around week 8.although I have found that greasy food is a big no no.us had sausages the other day as I was on until 8 in evening in work.they tasted delicious but we’re so not worth it.repeated on me and made me feel sick all day.congratulations again and so nice you don’t need your fertility appointment now.

I’m only 7 weeks and tomorrow was supposed to be our first fertility appointment. We are so blessed we still can’t really believe it! The chips last night were not a success. As soon as I opened them I was sick. Back to the drawing board…

Tbh if one of my close friends hadn’t suffered with this (twice) I’d probably think it was the press exaggerating. It’s horrific, feel so sorry for her. I agree with whoever said they’re sick of hearing about her, can’t help feeling the press are actually delighted with her condition as it’s given them some real “news” rather than just having to write stories like “How will pregnancy affect Kate’s hair?” Which is an actual headline I read last week.

I just had my third little baby a few weeks ago and apart from the morning sickness I mentioned earlier the things that drove me bananas were people who would constantly comment on how big I was, the filthy looks I got when I threw up in public and people who thought they knew everything about my pregnancy and would tell me the most silly things to avoid- my personal fav being that my beloved bright lipstick would be toxic for the baby!!!
Ah well..it’s all worth it in the end…I have a beautiful newborn

Well congrats!! Im 11 and a half. This is my second, have a one year old also!!!! Next June is going to be fun!!! You need to take it easy at this stage, im pooped come 7pm. Would love to go to bed like I did on my first one but the Boss doesnt allow that

I’m 10 weeks on Friday Gracie.How far along are you.this is my first so very excited.just had a very lazy day off.feel a little guilty but work is so hectic I just needed a day to bum.your poor sister and 3 at home on top of it all.just wrapping pressies now so day isn’t a complete waste.

Another early preggo here – how many weeks Boo and Atkin?

My sister had this earlier this year and was hospitalised twice. She took the medication they offered – she has 3 other children at home so felt she had to take the risk. Awful really, but Im sure the danger to the child and herself would have been stronger if she just suffered through for the 9 months.

Aisling thats dreadfully sad about your friend. Im sure it was an extremely painful decision to take, poor lady.
