High heel heaven – go for the ultimate car to bar shoes this season

By Kirstie | October 3 2012 | 21 Comments

The current fashion obsession with sky high heels seems to have taken over our feet. It seems like everyone is going to work, doing the school run and rushing around supermarkets in five inch heels. Stilettos have been around a really long time I know, but were mostly associated with hookers and movie stars.

I blame Victoria Beckham. She has made high heels look so amazing no wonder we all want to wear them – all the time! I am constantly amazed by photos of her teetering around airports in a pencil skirt and six inch heels, balancing Harper on her non-existent hip. Airports have tiled floors for heaven’s sake – high heel hell! And does she never get blisters? I am quite precious about my feet as I like to run, so if I feel any sort of friction that might stop me running, I am out of those heels right away.

Let’s be honest, we all love to wear heels. A high heel visually lengthens the leg; making it sleeker as well as adding a few inches to the wearer, so in our house the high heel rules are: doorstep parking, maximum two venues and taxi home.

Skinny heels, chunky heels, platforms and wedges, heels for next season vary from a very thin spike heel to a massive stable square heel, but for when you can’t take it anymore, pumps with a low elegant heel are also fashionable. Including kitten heels.  Which I hate.

With regard to the latter I have avoided reading your comments on them as I have my own (strong) opinion and I didn’t want to bias this serious fashion piece! Hate, hate, hate, them!  Read Kitten heels are back.

The platform, which we all love, is still relevant in boots and shoes and who doesn’t find it easier to toddle about in a platform or even better, a wedge. Chelsea boots are huge this season and at least you can walk in them. Plain and chunky, laced or embellished with buckles or studs – all are on trend. They look great with skinnies and really cool with girly dresses, so you will get to wear them again next spring before you get your sandals out.

Court shoes are a classic and the pointy toe returns, some of them even extended. Gwyneth Paltow wears the most gorgeous black pair in her advert for Boss Noir.

Metallic also rocks as do studs and glitter. Possibly the most fun trend and the one that will date the quickest, is studs and metal details – but it looks so bling, rock chick and will be perfect for The Season.

What are you lusting after?  Or are you sticking firmly to flats?
