Find The One with New Boots No 7 Foundation Match Made Service

Whatever your thoughts are on No 7 as a brand, chances are they’re going to change, and change for the better. For the past three years, under the guidance of their new creative director, Lisa Eldridge, they’ve been working away on entirely revamping their offerings. Today, across all stores, it’s time for the big reveal.

Pop into your nearest Boots and you’ll find that absolutely everything has been given a makeover, from the counters to the uniforms. Most importantly, the products themselves have been updated with new colours, textures and formulas across the range. We’ll bring you more details on that as we have them but today, let’s talk about an exciting new service that’s being rolled out as part of the re-launch.

No 7 Foundation match service

The lovely Lisa herself (and she is SO lovely, both in manner and in looks) was in town a few weeks ago to tell us the background and how it works. There isn’t a foundation wearing woman on the planet who hasn’t been badly shade matched at one time or another and this is an issue that Boots are tackling head on. Their new Foundation Match Made Service uses Pantone technology to scientifically match women to their perfect shade.

So how does it work? I was matched at the launch by a No 7 consultant who lightly rested a small hand-held measurement device against my jaw line – after first removing a small strip of my makeup from that area. The device measures and records the exact colour of the skin using a combination of lights and a camera – it can take upwards of 200 photos of your skin!

Boots No 7 foundations

Three of eight possible No 7 foundation types

After talking through your preferred texture and finish, you’ll be matched up with one of 17 new ‘skin-true’ shades, which are the same across all No 7 foundation types. The shades were formulated after measuring the colour values in the skin of more than 2000 women of all ages and ethnicities, and identifying 17 main colour clusters.

I think all of us who have a selection of not-quite-right bases gathering dust will really welcome this new innovation.  The foundation I’ve been matched to is in the post so I can’t share my thoughts on that just yet but the shade surprised me –  I’m Cool Ivory, and I didn’t know I was quite that pale!

Watch out for the comp coming up in a bit for a free shade match and foundation for three of you.

Will you be popping into Boots to check out the re-launch, and see the new service in action?

Can’t believe you met Lisa, so, so utterly jealous right now :(! x

  • catlee says:

I’ll def be heading to boots for a look today, Lisa tweeted this yesterday, got me all excira!!

  • SJP's Missing Mole says:

On Lisa’s blog she wrote that one of the challenges of this system will be to persuade women they’re a lighter shade. “But I’ve ALWAYS been Bisque!” Er no, you’ve always been going for a shader darker than you are!

I’m a huge Lisa fan, and if she’s revamping their formulations I’ll definately give my €7.50 voucher a whirl on this. That lady knows her textures.

  • SJP's Missing Mole says:

By the way, did ye see on the video where she said that an Irish journo had said “But how will this work for Irish women, who like to get a fake tan every week?”

MORTO! C’mon spill the beans ladies, was it yer wan from the Indo who has a different sexy byline photo every week?

  • Bluebelle says:

This sounds great in theory but if Emma’s Cool Ivory then I must be…Snow?? Is there any further information available on how pale the shades go??

  • susan says:

any idea what boots stores are offering the service?

  • LoCo says:

SJP’s Missing Mole – I’m dying to know who said that about the tan too!!

  • Grace says:

    Love the sound of this…

.. But is it just me or does the gal using the nifty device on Emma’s face look like she’s gone a shade dark?!

That is the one thing that always puts me off buying make up – every sales assistant I ever seem to encounter is caked in biscuit!

  • LynnieDoll says:

Grace – that lady is Lisa Eldridge herself!!!!!
Have to say I thought the same, her make up does look a bit on the dark side, or is it that she has a lot of bronzer on!! Had to judge in that photo.
FluffyEmma – what did you think of her shade of foundation yourself?
I thought you’d be darker than that yourself. I would have never put you down as Cool Ivory!

Will be interested to see what you think of the foundation Emma (I’m not that surprised by the colour suggestion!) but I am very skeptical of Boots to be honest. For the price point I find their products very disappointing.

The Boots lady looks ok on the forehead, maybe she went too heavy on the blush, the tone on her chin matches her cheeks…

  • alchemystee says:

Is that really Lisa??? Have been following her blog for a long time now, and I wouldn’t recognise her in that photo! :o

  • LoCo says:

LynnieDoll- that doesn’t look like Lisa too me. I was going to make same comment as Grace.

  • Grace says:

Lynnie, seriously?! Are you SURE?! She doesn’t have her trademark golden rings or manicured nails?!

I didn’t think I could know a face any better after the amount of youtube videos I’ve watched.. but apparently different angles make a hell of a difference – good god!

  • LauraLou says:

im going to go in n see how pale they go, im pretty pretty pale, so we’ll see if they can match me up. I think this is just a gimmick really.

What about the darker ladies with pigmentation around their face? Hmm

  • alchemystee says:

“I was matched at the launch by a No 7 consultant”

    …not Lisa then :D

  • LynnieDoll says:

Maybe it’s not, I thought it was! But your right, missing a huge chunky necklace/bracelet…yellow/green nail polish. But she has a thumb ring…
I think she looks really like her though.

  • That’s not Lisa in the pic – she was there, but she didn’t do the colour matching!

  • LynnieDoll says:

Totally got that wrong, it is definitely not her, sure fluffy Emma even said it in her post, she’s just a No7 consultant!!

  • LynnieDoll says:

FluffyEmma – what did you think, have you used Cool Ivory since?
Do you think it suits you?

  • Grace says:

Phew, I was already telling myself ‘Lisa surely doesnt wear foundation too dark for her… it must just be the lighting.. it can’t be true…’

    Broken heart mended!

Really looking forward to trying this out but fear you might be right LauraLou about it being a gimmick – fingers crossed…
