Are You A Twihard? Essence Breaking Dawn Collection is Fangtastic!

By Emma | November 8 2012 | 21 Comments

I have a confession to make. I am – whisper it – not a Twilight fan. I feel very much alone and in the minority these days but what can I say, I prefer my vampires a little less sparkly and a little more grown up  – think Eric in True Blood (mmmm), or Anne Rice’s Lestat.

That’s not to say the series is without its plus-points. The whole K-Patz saga has given me endless fodder for staff room chit chat, and my makeup bag is reaping the benefits too. We gave you a heads-up on the new Essence Breaking Dawn collection here – as well as the chance to win some gorgeous goodie bags – and now I’ve got my grubby little paws on some bits and pieces from the range.

This lipgloss in 01, Alice Had A Vision – Again, is described as an intense lilac but is more of a sheer but smoky plum.  It looks a very dramatic in the tube but is actually really wearable, as you can see on my tired and sleepy mug below. It’s also available in a red.

This is really exceptionally good. It’s not sticky at all – my main bugbear with lip gloss –  and feels really nice on the lips, as well as lasting a bit longer than your average gloss. Honestly, everyone should have at least one Essence gloss in their collection. Even the slebs are in on the action! Oh, and it’s €2.48. I KNOW!

I was also sent a loose pigments eyeshadow with the same quirky shade name as the gloss – you can always rely on Essence and big sister Catrice for an imaginative shade name! Reminding me more than a little of a Barry M Dazzle Dust, this is a stunning deep purple shimmer that looks almost black in some lights.

I had a play about with it this weekend and experienced a little bit of fall out, so try the old loose-powder-under-the-eye trick and you’ll be grand. A black (Edward’s Love), midnight blue (Jacob’s Protection) and sparkly gold (A Piece of Forever) are also available, each priced at €3.09.

There’s lots more to check out at a chemist near you (or a Penneys, or a Dunnes!)- like two liquid glitter eyeliners (€2.89), an interesting sounding gold lipstick (€3.09), shimmer powder (€3.79), velvety red cream blush (€3.49) and four gorgeous looking nail colours (€2.49).

These should be on stands now. Let us know if you’ve spotted ‘em, or if anything’s tickling your fancy. To the comments!

Eric in True Blood – Swwwooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Saw these in Clerys yesterday was in a rush so didn’t get chance to properly check it out. Like the look of the nail polish, even though I need a new polish like a whole in the head.

LoCo, I hear ya, I typed those words and then I went into a little Eric inspired daydream for ooh a good half hour. It’s kinda happening again now!

  • littlesis says:

Ah Emma, I’m disappointed in you ;D

The lipgloss looks gorgeous, I’ve not tried any Essence gloss yet. After your recommendation, this will soon be rectified.

Emma, you’re not alone, Eric rocks, and Edward…. Doesn’t. The whole Twilight thing is kinda meh. Even the DD doesn’t get it, she’s all like “This is stupid” – and this is the kid who watched The Fellowship of the Ring minimum three times a day between the ages of 1 and 2 (she had a thing for ‘Negolas’ and Gimli). Having said all that, liking the look of the nail polishes

I cannot stand Twilight, I got disgusted with the first book and couldn’t finish it. How do people find this horrible abusive stuff romantic?

Anyway, this collection looks great, I’m definitely going to check it out.

  • IceQueen says:

If their other lipglosses are anything to go by, I’ll be trying this one too.
The mother picked me up an essence lipgloss ages ago in Penneys and I love it. Great colour and not as sticky as most. Impulse buys – not all bad!!

You are not alone in not liking twilight. The boy is dragging me to see it :( sigh

Eric from true blood sweet mother of Jesus. Mmmm

Love the look of te pigment might pick it up :)

  • The Purple Glitter polish is STUNNING! I am wearing it as a top coat over a berry coloured bas and it looks so festive, but still understated and sophisticated.

  • Emma says:

Girlwiththeskewearring, that is definitely going on my list.

  • Louise says:

Dont worry youre not alone in not liking twilight. True blood is where its at – they acknowledge the rediculousness of the whole concept, and throw in some riding.

I cant totally see my twihard friends wetting themselves over this collection. So you have given me some excelent Kris Krindel ideas :)

  • Cait says:

Ohh I must have those nail varnishes and the lip gloss looks gorgeous but I dislike the whole Twilight phenomenon so much that I don’t know if I can bring myself to buy something labelled “Twilight”. Ugh.

  • I’m definitely a Twilight fan (more of the books than the movies, but whatever) and I do like this collection. Especially the nail lacqeurs are great, such great colors!

  • Shanna says:

Not a Twilight fan but don’t hate it or anything. I thought I’d want all the polish but when I saw it in person the only one I didn’t have a variation of was the purple, so I left the rest behind. I presume there is some kind of award for not buying polish, yes?

  • says:

got the pupley and gold nail polishes, they are fab!!!

  • EvieM says:

Oooh love the sparkly purple nail polish. Hope its nicer than the last essense polish I got, also purple. How I Matt Your Mother….didn’t see the matt part and it looked lovely in the bottle. It is in fact (brushed steel effect) or so they say, anyway, it dried mucky looking and i was soooo disappointed.

  • tessy says:

The blush is not a cream but a powder blush. The colour is so pretty and rather rare within the lower price range. It gets the tiniest bit orange on the skin.

  • miffyonline says:

EvieM, slap some top coat over the Catrice, and it will be lovely and shiny (I saw this on nihrida’s blog)

I got the purple shimmer polish and it is lovely. I will be going back for the lip gloss, I like how it looks on you, Emma.

Catrice and Essence are great pick-me-ups – if you don’t like how they turn out it is no big loss!

  • EvieM says:

Cheers Miffy, I considered it at the time but didn’t bother and then it chipped soooo fast there was no point. I’ll definitely try that next time as the colour looked lovely in the bottle.

  • gobo says:

These will slot in nicely with this winters baroque trends,
