I get them fairly regularly ever since I can remember and use zovirax which takes the pain out of them but i find a combo with some hydrocortisone works best for healing.

I found when I had my lip pierced I never got a single cold sore in the entire 2 years the piercing was in! I think there is a cure in there somehow!

I have the cold sore machine from boots aswell but its not a full on solution for me. When i use it it prevents all that nasty scab forming and being all crusty, definately worth it when you consider creams are like 10€!

Also i get cold sore every month, like lip swelling to a balloon painful cant even talk cold sores, so my doctor gives me valtrex tablets for when i break out. These are miracle workers! take one as soon as you feel even the slighest chance of a cold sore and it wont come up!!

Yes L-lyseine is brilliant, take about 6 when you feel one coming on, and take one or 2 i think it is everyday to keep them away x

The Boots cold sore machine is the same as Lipzor or Virulite – and in the UK at least, in theory Lipzor/Virulite is available on the NHS.. it’s well worth asking about. The other great thing to have on hand is the Super Lysene Cold Sore treatment ointment from Quantam (at Victoriahealth.com). Together they’re amazing for obliterating or reducing cold sores. I’ve used Virulite for years now and there is nothing to match it.

Apples I’m right with ya on that! I bought the Boots coldsore machine two years ago after suffering from them every few months. You use it for 3 minutes as soon as you feel a tingle and I haven’t had one in the 2 years since!Amazing product could not live without it- all those messy creams be gone!

I find if I take a zinc suppliment daily during the winter months I can keep the blighters at bay. Also found that pumpkin seeds are great at helping to heal them quickly when they do make an apperance.

I use bio propolis cream from A Vogel, it works wonders n gets rid of cold sores quicker than Zovirax. I haven’t had one yet this winter or a cold (TOUCH WOOD!!!) and I put it all down to eating lots of spinach I try to have some everyday, I’ll be like Popeye soon!

Cold sores are the WORST! I used to be dosed with them but luckily haven’t had any in ages now. *runs around touching ALL THE WOOD* I’d always get jealous of my boyfriend’s beardy face when I had them, because if girls could grow beards it would’ve been all hidden, problem solved!

Anyway, Lysine tablets didn’t work for me and Compeed patches ended up drawing it out for around 2 weeks. Eventually I found that a dab of whiskey on a cotton bud every few hours got it sorted in a matter of days.

Sali Hughes from the Guardian swears by Boots’ cold-sore machine. She said (and I quote) “I bought this low-tech, slightly crap looking gadget last autumn, when my yearly sore (at time of purchase, the size of a wagon wheel) erupted before a television appearance. I zapped the sore for the requisite four minutes and again shortly after. Within an hour, the swelling was right down. Within a day, the sore had dried up. Three days later it had gone (I normally have to go into hiding for about 10 days). I now use it twice a week to keep sores at bay. £35 is a bit pricey, but frankly if it sorted it out I’d take the plunge. Has anyone used one?
