I have no pain threshold, yet I still managed to give birth to two children with no painkillers whatsoever because I'm also terrified of needles :(
I'm also extremely hairy (don't be jealous, ladies, I was born this way) but because of my superhuman strong as steel hair with its half-inch below the surface roots, waxing is horrific (only the tache works, more on that in a moment). I shave my legs and bikini area. Yes, I'm a cavewoman. But nothing else works for me. I shave and then pat witch hazel or lemon juice (yes, it hurts) over the areas I tend to get red bumps. And to be honest, I don't even shave very often, because it's cold here most of the year and nobody's going to see my legs anyway.
The best waxing here in Malmö is at Studio Cera, hands down. No redness, no pain, excellent brow shaping as well for those who want it. Very difficult to get an appt but so worth the wait.

A bit late to the party, but I got my brows and, ahem, 'stache, threaded in the Threads bar in Debenhams Limerick and it was virtually painless. Now I'm not saying that it was all nice and cosy, but at least my eyes didn't tear up at all. She was quick, too, so it was perfect.
The only problem was the whole "walking around with my brow and 'stache areas bright red, but I guess that would be the same with any other threader.

Best advice I was ever given is to pluck your eyebrows yourself, little and frequently. Every three days or so, you'll have access to a few strays, and the pain won't be too bad cos, hey! There are only a few!

Plus it saves you cash, and they never go out of shape when you pluck because you pluck so frequently that you never forget how theyre supposed to look! :-)

I think eyeballs are a bit of a scary bodypart for most people - I know a few people like that but I'm grand, in fact got my eyes lasered recently (shudder)! Touch my neck now however and I'll have your arm...

I get my eyebrows threaded and I've found that it depends on the therapist. (Louise in Elysian Brows is the least painful I've found and she says loads of people have commmented on it.)
It's the same with getting a blood sample - I can get quite queasy - but I've had two that I've barely noticed and when I mentioned it to the nurse she smiled and said 'Yes, I know, I'm good'.
I've a moustache that would make Tom Selleck jealous but I wouldn't let anyone near that! A small pair of scissors does the job for me.

Whoopsie, inadvertently reigniting the agreeably stoopid Neurofen Plus debate! For years I've stumbled to the chemist for the NP for the killer hangover or for pre-threading numbing, then this is taken away from me. Pah.
If the chemist knew how bad my hangovers are there'd be no quibbles I tell you.
My pain threshold is pretty good I think, think I've just accepted some inevitable pains, maybe I've re-wired my brain-things. But avoiding pre-period waxing and rubbing on a bit of teething gel (like Bonjela) or even better, Emla cream (from chemist) on your brows or upper lip can help.

OH GOOD GOD the pain of tache threading - once I had it and I vow I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever again.........
I felt physically sick. I am usually ok with pain :-(

I stick to trimming with a wee scissors now, as suggested by a lovely therapist I had once. Much better

I have a reasonably high pain threshold-I have't had any babies yet but I have had my appendix and tonsils out-both in my 20's and the tonsils were definitely the worst! They're not lying when they say that the older you are the harder it is, so 29 is not the ideal age for that op! I was grand with both of these, but I find leg and underarm waxing very painful. I'm afflicted with dark hair and very pale skin so I have to have my eyebrows seen to every two weeks-waxing is fine, but I find threading awful-there's the pain and the watering eyes-I dunno which is worse!

Hi girls, I'm a pharmacist. You don't need a prescription for Nurofen Plus, but there are new regulations for Codeine due to its addiction potential which restrict its sale. Many people get it for inappropriate types of pain and use it longer than necessary, so once you ask your pharmacist for Nurofen Plus (and they deem it an appropriate indication) and you use it for less than 3 days (see your GP if longer) it's fine. It's still available, just not overtly visible. I'd recommend trying other types of analgesics (painkillers) before you would try a Codeine containing product such as Paracetamol (Panadol), Ibuprofen (Nurofen) and speak to your pharmacist about it.

Ciara - I get shin splints but only when I wear ballet flats.

I wear 3 inch heels most times, proper runners and then ballet flats only a few times a month to give my feet a bit of a break, that said I live in slippers as soon as I'm home from work!

My pain threshold is ok. Although I got waxed for the first time, I was a model for a friend doing a beauty course. Got legs, bikini and underarm done in the one day and barely flinched... that said I nearly scream anytime I wax my upper lip!

On the neurofen plus bit, I avoid boots like the plague. Smaller chemists are better and a little more considerate, less inquisition-ish. That said I'll only take it for cramps.
