Bobbi Brown Neons and Nudes for February 2012: Pictures & Swatches

bobbi brown neons and nudes

Neons and Nudes is the new collection from Bobbi Brown, and will land on counter from February. Nudes: yep, we're assured good ones we'll know and trust; neons - well, not so much. But it's not surprising to see a collection of neutrals from the queen of 'em considering the huge surge in interest in taupes, minks, browns and beiges in the last couple of years.

And honestly, long before Urban Decay came along with their Naked palettes, Bobbi Brown was knocking it out of the park with palettes like Stonewashed Nude (my Sommersby product), Shimmering Nude and Nude lip and Eye.

So it's high time to show the Johnny-come-lately pipsqueaks how it's really done. The Ultra Nude Eye Palette, €47, does just that: this time she's sexing it up a bit with some glam pink palette inserts. The colours themselves are a wearable mix of medium-pigmented browns, chocolates and gold with matte, satin and shimmer. Two blushers,  Nude Peach and Nude Pink, €25, are perfect compliments.

Those are the nude elements of the collection. What about the neon? In the top pic you can see three limited edition lipsticks, two of which are opaque cream shades in screaming colours. They're Atomic Orange and Neon Pink. Joined by Uber Beige, you'll pay €25 for each. Gloss comes in similarly shocking shades: Citrus, Cosmic Pink and Ultra Violet, €24.

Two deep shadow shades are on offer too: Ultra Violet Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow and Bluebell Eye Shadow are €22 a pop. There's also a limited edition Ink Liner with a felt nib for €24.

I jammily got a palette to play with and have been doing so for the past few weeks.

Chino, Praline, Pink Chandelier, Stone, Champagne Truffle, Cocoa Berry

The shades in this are great - it's a more well-considered edit than the Naked palette I own, for example, and better for a cooler skintone. But make no bones about it, this probably isn't for you if you want a lot of bang for your buck, tons and tons of pigment and not a huge amount to spend. Bobbi Brown makes grown-up-lady understated makeup, and that's what this is: you get medium pigmented colours with low-impact finishes, not masses and masses of colour with blinging shine and glitter.

Me? I'm using this all the time for day at the moment: Pink Chandelier all over the lid, some Praline at the outer corner of the eye and blended into the crease plus a little Cocoa Berry as a smudgey liner does the quickest, easiest morning eye. I keep getting compliments. Hey - I'll take that and say thanks.

So, what do you think of Neons and Nudes, then? Anything catching your makeup-loving eye?
