That’s just such a load of tripe. In the full article (which I had to read myself to make sure it was real!), it gives out about the rise of the Mary Jane shoes which I don’t understand. Yes they’re girly but they’re also very comfortable & better for your feet than some other shoes.
I’m probably classed as a woman child – I don’t have kids, not married & my love for girly & pretty things knows very few bounds. On the flip side, I’ve quite a good career and, while I love reading some young adult books, I also love a lot of the more literary ones . Does the fact that I like sparkles somehow make me less intelligent? Does the fact that I didn’t marry the first guy I met in my early 20’s & pop out a couple of kids make me less of a grown-up*? I pay rent, bills, am responsible – surely that what makes you a grown-up & not what colour you have on your finger nails.
*Btw I’m not being disparaging towards people who have married & had kids in their early 20’s – I think the joy of todays society should be that not only is that acceptable but so is my choice to not.

I live in jeans, hoodies and trainers. I read comics, and a lot of my books are young adult-type ones [the good stuff]. I watch cartoons, and superhero movies, and wanted a pirate/ninja party for my 30th. I don’t own a house. I do ‘t even rent; i live with my parents. I am not married, or in a relationship of any kind, and i definitely don’t have kids.
And you know what? I don’t give a shit. I wouldn’t change myself for anything [well, maybe the living at home part lol!] and certainly not for some random article shaming me for having a personality. Bollocks.

I’m almost finished a PhD but write with a pink pen! Think my wedge runners properly define me as a woman-child but I suspect everyone here who enjoys reading a beauty blog to wind down from all the everyday grown-up stuff are going to be judged by that writer. Not into girly books or films but glitter nails and Harry Potter make me smile, everyone needs something that makes them smile!

I am 26 and single. I live alone. I still love Harry Potter. I love Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Avatar: The Last Airbender (not the crappy movie, the animation) and all things fantasy and/or sci-fi. I wear Converses. I read Hunger Games recently and I loved it. But wait!! I also love to wear high heels. I love make up. I love all things sparkly and girly. I am currently doing a PhD on a “manly” subject and I like to wear red lipstick while I’m doing it.

I will not be ear marked or shamed for my choices.

It does seeem strange that Jezebel would post that book extract without a pre/post remark themselves. That is the same site which posted an article listing all the various laws around the USA that were anti women’s rights.
Personally I’ve never fit into any “box”, I was the first person from an all-girls school to do engineering in college, I’m still in the tech industry where the majority of my female colleagues are in non-tech roles. I’m a 36 yr old single woman (much to the bemusement of my asian colleagues who’ve never met a woman over 25 who wasn’t wed) with no kids, and day to day wear jeans & runners, though I do switch to business attire when meeting customers, subcontractors & other external business associates.
My movie tastes range from Red October, Lord of the Rings, Step Up, Transformers.. and fairly varied therafter.
So I am some weird mix of tomboy & girlie girl ..
