Disgusted about that sexual assault case. Apparently the pig who attacked the girl had 3 prior convictions ( although im not sure whether these were for sexual assaults or not). He should be thrown in jail & left to rot.

Beth, happy birthday! I wouldn’t mind a bit of cake as well!

On this judge thing, is there anyone around trained in law to help me understand? I don’t have the slighest idea of how Irish law works, especially since it’s probably common law based like the UK. But it looks like judges have a huge power of interpretation here.
In Roman law countries, every type of offence or crime carries its kind of punishment. The judge can decide not to go to the maximum but he cannot alter the nature of the punishment since it is tied to the nature of the offence.
But from what I gather with this story, in Ireland a judge can decide to give a punishment that is not linked to the offence. That would mean there is no predictability of the law???? I’m really confused.

I too have the rage in relation to that rape sentence – the Rape Crisis Centres had just got the judges to understand, now this? This is the second time I’ve heard it, absolutely the wrongest of messages.

Celine- what you have said is so true. And it’s the second Judge to do it. Are they so removed from the real world/society that they think that is is an acceptable action. That pure girl’s life is in ruins, what makes Judges think that cash = justice. It’s so close to prostituting the women who are so brave and show so much courage to come forward and try to prosecute these men.

That is disgusting what that judge has done, I am absolutely raging about it. That poor girl will be traumatized for life and he has done nothing to help that. Sickened here.
