Oh thanks thefrog! That’s exactly the type of thing I was looking for, I’ve been reading reviews online, but it’s much better to hear it from somebody who I know will give me the truth Maybe I’ll have a look in the other shops around here after work and see if there’s something else available!

Thanks for the tips girls. I love the idea that the henna will last for ages. I’m so sick of using bottle dyes only to have to redo them every week or so, they seem to run right through my hair. I’ve been putting red colours in my hair for a while so I’m ok with the colour and stuff. I’d just like to talk to someone who used it before trying it myself!

Evie, that sucks all right, but you just have to keep trying, you cannot allow the disappointment to get to your head. If you don’t do it already, always try to get from then a reason why they turned you down, to know whether it was something you can improve on, or if it was for reasons beyond your control. It really helps.

Orla, that name is stupid, even by Lush standards. I first saw their henna range in Ireland and just stopped, reading the label and thinking “what kind of joke is that?”.
That said, I tried it once (it’s sold under a different name in French speaking countries, obviously), can’t remember whether it was the red one or another colour, but I think it probably was red. Anyway, it’s incredibly messy to use, especially since you have to grate the thing like you would grate parmegiano cheese. Then you have to figure out the right amount of water to use, and finally you have to leave it a VERY long time on your hair to get any result. I had used henna before, from organic cosmetics brands, and the Lush one was really not as good. So I ended up with a big chunk of it left that I put in the bin after a year or so.
But while I wouldn’t recommend the Lush one, you should be able to find easier to use henna in chemist or organic shops.

Afternoon ladies! Orla I asked the lush sales peeps about the henna dye before. Got a big speel about it. Basically the longer you leave it in the better the colour develops and takes. This was calculated to me in hours/day. Then you can’t use regular dyes over it only grow it out. (I think, it was a while ago, memory is fuzzy). Might be better off getting something a tad less permanent for a big change. I was intrigued by it at first but it sounded like such a lot of work. However the sales assistants were very informative if you wanted to know more!

Yeah Celine, they don’t work on me either. I talked to my sil recently, she’s a hairdresser in Canada and recommended a shade for me when I was going in getting my hair coloured recently, and it really seems to have toned down the red, there’s only the slightest tinge of it now in bright sunlight or artificial light. Pity same can’t be said about my ends. I have ombre on the ends and I’ve been getting it done gradually so I don’t wreck my hair and have to chop it, I’ve done it twice now and while it looks a soft and natural light brown with tints of blonde in normal light, if it’s anyway sunny at all it gets quite coppery, which is fine, but not what I’m looking for. Maybe another few months and I’ve have dark blondes like Kate Beckinsale, which is the look I’m going for.

My hair looks like it’s the same as Evie’s: you know those “ash” colours” that promise you that you won’t get any kind of red on your hair? yeah right, my hair has this magical power of turning any kind of haircolour into a reddish one. I used to use a blue-black hair colour when I was younger, after two washes it usually faded to some kind of reddish black. Nightmare I tell ya!

Orla, I’d be wary of putting anything with the word caca on my head. I’d be more inclined to go to a hairdressers for that drastic of a change anyway, red is hard to do well…and fades like a biotch. You can have my red if you want, I have brown hair that brings out red in haircolours with no red in them…go in get your hair dyed chocolate brown, come out and stand under a light….boom, bright red hair, drives me fricken nuts.
