Thats hilarious. If I ever get married I will not carry on like this. I’ve met a lot of bridezillas in my time, so its made me really conscious of not carrying on with this sort of nonsense.

Yep, this was not a joke. The plan was that she’d learn “I say a little Prayer”, lash the mic into the middle of her bouquet and walk up the aisle singing away her adorations for the groom in waiting. Poor church music man took till 3 weeks before the wedding before she wanted to do it and he spent 20 days convincing her not to

I’ve worked with a few weddings before so I’ve heard some bizarre ones.

Like the bride who specified on her invitation that under no circumstances were people to wear anything from Coast lest they show up in the same dresses as her bridesmaids. Or the girl who refused to pay the DJ as he “didn’t play all of her songs that night”. When the DJ agency got back to her, it turned out that he had 40 minutes to play her list of 40 songs. I’ve also heard of at least 3 who gazumped bands on other brides, of one who attempted to do with with a hotel and even one who insisted on the morning of the wedding that the hotel remove meal from the meal after she turned vegeterian the week beforehand.

Best of all was the girl who asked the church musician if he had a cordless mic. When he asked why she said it was so she could sing herself up the aisle

I’m getting married in a month. I have two bridesmaids. My best friend rang me three months ago and said that I seriously had to think about getting a wedding dress and that she’d made an appointment for me. She came with me and I loved the second dress I saw. My cousin (the other bridesmaid) came in with my mum to approve it. We met again on a Saturday and went to two bridesmaids dress shops. They picked their own dresses. I told them they could have any style they wanted and I didn’t care if they picked different dresses. Ironically they picked the same very typically “bridesmaidy” dress. They threw me a hen party last Saturday. I asked that it be not more than one day, and local and they organised an absolutely fantastic day. Other than that I expect them to go to the alterations place to get their dresses fitted and show up on the day. I’ve organised a make-up artist, hair stylist and I’ve booked them rooms in the hotel I got them a necklace and and earrings each to say thanks. They texted me to ask if we could meet up to pick shoes for their outfits.
I wouldn’t have bridesmaids if they were going to pay for everything themselves – how could you demand that of a friend? I already feel like I’m inconveniencing them even though I was bridesmaid for my best friend and did the same for her. The American version with engagement party, shower AND hen party just seems insane.

Rach, maybe the American movies (27 Dresses, Shopaholic etc.) have put it in my head that bride pays for bridesmaids dresses as some brides pick unflattering dresses as to not have ANY chance of the bridesmaids upstaging her and therefore can’t ask the bridesmaids to pay for those as they would probably refuse? My sister is not making any of her bridesmaids pay for their dresses or hotel stay as she says she’s the one choosing…
