What’s The One Product You Always Get Complimented On?

By Beaut.ie | April 15 2011 | 50 Comments

yay!

I used to have this fabarooney Paul and Joe blusher that was pink and shot through with subtle golden pearl and yeah I liked it and all but it wasn’t feckin’ spectacular. Or at least, I didn’t think so anyway.

Except.

Except every time I wore it I got people telling me I looked well or holy mother of sweet divine what was that amazing stuff I had on my cheeks and could they buy some too?

This kept happening and then the universe intervened and sent An Order to Shatter into my handbag, which complied by crushing the life out of the lovely luminizing, compliment-giving blusher, thus rendering it completely unusable.

Sigh.

I’ve never come close to having a product that was so universally admired in use since. What about you lot though? Got anything in your beauty bags that people routinely gasp over in stunned amazement when they see it on your face? Spill in the comments!

For me definitely Smashbox’s O-Glow. I get tonnes of compliments on it, all the time.

  • Aifs says:

My Double Wear foundation is the perfect colour for my skin (Linen – not available in Ireland!!) and I’ve had numerous comments on it which usually results in them buying it too.

The other is usually my mascara. I have long lashes so I am usually asked what mascara I’m wearing or am I’m wearing false lashes? Most of the time is when I’m wearing Max Factor Masterpiece Max or False Lash Effect. I usually then get given out to after they buy it and have the same effect from it!

Mac’s Morange lipstick – girls in shops always ask me what it is.

Chanel ProLumiere! My HG of foundation!

I got a Sleek blusher when I was over in London back in Jan and started wearing it recently. Despite my skin being in a heap at the minute, everyone keeps commenting on how fab I look with it. Even my sister, who can be critical of make-up (not in a bad way mind but she won’t compliment unless she really likes it) said it looked brilliant. Cheap as chips as well so I’m happy!

  • Kitty In The City says:

Urban Decay glitter eye-liner. I have two, silver and a bronze. The odd time my MAC lipstick in Diva, but almost always the glitter eye-liner.

I did a course in make-up recently and since then I’ve been wearing eyeshadow during the day – just a neutral nude, with a smudgy darker shade on the outside of my eye. Without fail, everyone who sees me for the first time since my “new look” says I look great. It’s simultaneously heartening and, eh, disheartening. Didn’t I look great before?! Obviously not!

At the moment I’m wearing the lovely Bourjois “Healthy Skin” foundation.

Have had loads of compliments on my skin since I started using this stuff, ranging from “oh your skin looks great!” to “wow, you have some glow about you”…

    Very flattering!

  • ArtDonatella says:

Oh, great post! Never get compliments on my makeup, I wonder why :)???
Anyway, I want to participate, so I’ll give you my most complimented perfume: Miss Dior Cherie L’Eau = beaoootifool!

    Ruby Woo lipstick.

Famous Daves self tanner. Their mousse is the very best tan I have ever tried. Instant colour- dries in seconds and no smell! I get compliments every time I wear it without fail!

Whenever I wear Armani luminous silk foundation I get compliments on my great skin (my skin is far from great!) I thought it was strange because it’s a sheer foundation, but it probably has more to do with it being the only foundation that matches my skin tone perfectly. Mac lipstick in craving always gets me compliments as well :)

  • TheAlphaNail says:

Funnily enough Revlon’s ColorStay liquid foundation. Bought it recently in Fresh Beige (Mac NW25 equivalent I believe) for everyday use so wouldnt have to bronze neck etc. I thought it was very pale/plain at first but I havent worn it once without someone saying my make up looks great. I usually wear more expensive makeup so just goes to show. Going to buy it in a darker shade for summer now!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light. Totally unremarkable in itself you might think – I only got it cos I was doing 13 hour shifts and needed something that wouldn’t budge.

Well I don’t know what the hell it was about the stuff, but I got more mistakes about my age in the first two weeks than I ever got in my life. Seriously – about five times some stranger said to me: “Ah sure you’re only a young wan! What are ya? About 25 is it?”

    I am 37. years. old.

  • Eve says:

Mascara for me. Since I started using Clarins Wonder Perfect mascara I’ve been asked by several people if I’m wearing false eyelashes and when I say ‘no’ they’ve all said my eyelashes are amazing :)
So I have one nice feature – the hair above my eyes!…Erm, great…I think…

  • kittyKat says:

Artdonatella, heh heh, I’m the same.
A girl did ask me a while ago which blush I was wearing cos she thought it woudl be perfect for her wedding day – it was Estee Lauder pink kiss.

Aifs, when I was getting a sample of Estte Lauder DW in ivory beige, the girl had a big sample bottle of linen in Boots in Liffey Valley.

Great post! Now firstly, I would like to say that I am sure that the compliments are because we’re just all bleedin roy-eds, naturally.:D Don’t they say that the best makeup is makeup that makes you look like you’re not wearing any? (Bit unrealistic for the silver glitter eye-liners unless you’ve been sent down in a UFO or something)

I get complimented on my lovely skin (HA!!! I so don’t have lovely skin!) but it’s my foundation they mean, I’m sure which is Bareminerals. Also get complimented on my eyelashes and sometimes asked are they real. Actually find that a bit unnerving; do I look like a camel or something with my supersize lashes? Anyway, I must admit that I do have long eyelashes but my new mascara helps – think it’s called L’oreal telescopic??

  • Buttons says:

Does yer wan in the pic have massive arms? I’d say that would be what gets noticed on her!

  • Buttons says:

Looking again, it’s just her forearms, reminds me of popeye!

  • Aifs says:

kittyKat – Seriously? That’s mad. She must have picked that up in the US because I’ve tried numerous places and they don’t have it. Even in the UK and on the Estee Lauder UK website. It’s pure mental that it’s not sold here because I bet it would suit lots of other Irish skin tones.

Eve – that’s like me. I say “yeah my good feature is having hairy eyes!”
