Longtime Beaut.ie stalwart and Swap Siopa mistress Principessa’s giving us the low-down on a product for red hair today – take it away, missis …
The naturally gorgeous red locks that Catriona was swishing at the recent Beaut.ie meet-up attracted a lorra, lorra envy. Not all of us are quite so blessed by nature. Some of us *cough* rely on science, a lorra, lorra science! If you’ve ever gone red, you’ll know it’s a bugger to keep it looking salon fresh. Red shades fade, and fade fast.
The science bit, according to an award winning colourist I used to go to, is that the red molecules are larger than other shades, and as a result don’t penetrate the hair shaft as well. Don’t know if that’s true, but it makes sense to me anyway.
If you’re tired of your red locks being less than luscious, Revlon have come to the rescue with their Professional Nutri Colour Crème, €23, a deep conditioning colour treatment. There are lots of products that promise to maintain your colour but this is the best I’ve ever used. With no ammonia, or peroxide it’s gentle on your hair.
The guide even tells you how many pumps to use depending on your hair length. You comb it through and leave it on for three minutes, (although I’ve been know to linger in the bath with it on) and before you can say Kate Winslet in Titanic, your colour is back to looking gorgeous! I use shade 740, bright intense copper. I also like 734, golden copper, for summer time. This is available for brown and blonde shades too, but get this – it only works on chemically treated hair. Ha! Take that you natural redheads!
Stocked by Revlon salons nationwide, you should get over a dozen applications from one bottle.
