Essence, one of our favourite budget makeup brands has launched a brand spanking new skincare range. It checks all our boxes for young skin – all the products are oil free (check); contain UV filters (double check) and everything’s under €3 (triple check). Yes you read that right – every single product is LESS THAN THREE EURO.
Sorry for shouting – but I had a good reason didn’t I? You could pick yourself up a cleansing gel (€2.49) and a moisturiser (€2.49), thus sorting a basic skincare routine for less than a fiver. This is the kind of maths we like
Moisturisers (€2.49), cleansing gel (€2.49) four way cleansers (€2.79), toners (€2.49) and wipes (€1.99 but only to be used in dire emergency you hear) are all available in three ‘flavours’ to suit different skintypes. Pink packaging signals Pomegranate and Bamboo (normal to dry); blue boxes mean Lychee and blue grape (normal to combo) while the green Lime and cucumber will suit all skin types.
Perfect for oily skin, mattifying cream (€2.49) dampens down shine during the day and will help to keep makeup on your face, while masks are the Hannibal Lector stylee paper version which is always good for a laugh and cost €1.50
But okay the million dollar question: it’s cheap and it looks and smells pretty – but is this range y’know actually any good?
Well yes, yes it is. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not Dermalogica, but it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s a good basic skincare range that does what it says it will and is perfect for someone young (tweens, teens and early twenties) who has no serious skin issues. It won’t suit you if you’ve got sensitive skin (the products are highly fragranced for example) or acne prone, but if you have no major areas of concern, barring a few spots or blackheads, it will keep your skin clean and moisiturised.
