This one’s been up and down the blogosphere and back again: Prestige (we took a look at their fab Total Intensity eyeliners last week) make what’s often hailed as a dupe for Mac’s Mineralize Skinfinish powders. Skin Loving Minerals (left) is the Prestige offering, but is it any cop, and will it replace my trusty Perfect Topping (right) when it runs out?
I’ve hit pan on my used-every-day Perfect Topping and as it was limited-edition, I’m not gonna be able to get another unless I chance eBay or of course, Mac reissue it with another collection, which is entirely likely, but which might not happen according to a schedule I like.
So, I nabbed myself a Prestige Skin Loving Minerals compact in Pure Shimmer last week for around €13 (apologies, I have lost the receipt and can’t remember the exact price). It’s described as a bronzer and while some of the other shades in the line might do that particular trick, I picked this because it was the closest to my Mac product there was, and it swatched really well – a golden, shimmery powder that looks great over liquid foundation. I’d say this is more of a luminizer than a bronzer.
So, does it dupe Mac? Nope, not perfectly – it’s a lot more golden than Perfect Topping and is leaning more towards Kevyn Aucoin’s Celestial Powders, because it doesn’t have those pinky/purply veins running through it which combine to give a gorgeous pearlised apricot that really suits my skin.
In this shot, it doesn’t look like there’s much in it, does there? But Prestige’s Pure Shimmer is a more golden and shiny, and Perfect Topping is a little more sedate and not quite so metallic. I’ll happily use up both of them to be honest, but should Mac reissue Perfect Topping in a new collection, then I’ll most likely be first to the counter.
