New from La Roche Posay: Toleriane Teint Mineral Compact with SPF25

la roche posay toleriane

This new offering from La Roche Posay is a bit of a weird one. It's a handy compact with built-in mirror and neat little niche for the smooth sponge, but it took me a while to get used to it, to be perfectly honest. The texture of the product  is what threw me: in situ, it's very much  like a pressed powder, but it applies like a compact foundation.

See? Weeeeird.

Toleriane Teint Mineral Compact, €21.50, is billed as a complexion corrector for intolerant, sensitive, normal-to-combination skin. Tested on skin that's atopic and imperfection-prone, it's preservative-free, fragrance-free, alcohol-free, non-comedogenic, and  has an SPF25.  It's also, as the name suggests, a mineral powder foundation, but with higher covering power than you might expect to hide dark circles, imperfections or blemishes, redness, and scarring and burn sequels (on dermatologist's advice) for a uniform, flawless complexion.

I found the coverage to be medium-to-full, but not heavy or cakey, and it did a good job of hiding redness around my nose and disguising the look of blemishes without accentuating dry patches. It gives a really nice natural matte finish. I felt that it was inclined to be a bit drying around the eye area, so I wouldn't personally use it there for dark circle concealment. It kept oil at bay pretty well during the day, too.

My biggest gripe is the range of shades available - there are three! - and even the lightest was still a fraction too dark for my skin. If one of the trio matches your own skintone, though, you're laughing, because this stuff has the ability to make skin look really good. I recently asked two girls whose skin looked uh-maze-ing what foundation they were wearing, and the answer on both counts was Toleriane Teint Mineral Compact.
